Construction report
Let's start!
Main gear well. Good fitting.
Fin looks like there are more versions to come.
Weak point: exhaust is just a blank plate. Solution to follow!
Fitting of two fuselage halves was excellent
wörk, wörk...
Top: HARM from the hasegawa F-16CJ kit, below from the weapon box. not as good as from the kit!
tanks from the Hasegawa kit as well, ECM pod from the weapon set.
some lines had to be filled. Looks here too, maybe another version will follow?
I printed a photo of the engine in the right size, and glued it on a piece of sheet
looks nice 🙂
first white
and some washing.
impression looks like the real thing, but is only 2D
wheels
intake
fitting of the cockpit was good as well
resin seat vs. kit seat. I feel tamiya could have done better
intake. Make sure some things are painted before glueing!
cockpit tub, oob
top: HTS from the hasegawa weapon kit, bottom from the F-16CJ-kit, which is a bit too small
intake finished
Sniper pod from the same kit.
seat completed
before some drybrushing
I will use the tamiya inner wings pylons, so the tanks need some new holes, and the wings need attachment points as wel (see green circles).
Tanks have the same position. Good!
HARM pylon is a bit too far forward
Painting the fuselage before attaching the intake part.
Looks nice so far.
Paint the black lip as well before attaching the intake assembly
Preshading
refined the HARM pylon
masking with tamiya tape. Good thing the cockpit has only little framing!
Painting the inside of the windshield
Underside with Tamiya XF-53
Used some pencil (silver) to emulate the metallic shine of the "have glass" paintwork
Grey, but a bit metallic.
Revell 74 gunship grey.
And some HB pencil dust, applied with a q-tip. A metallic shine, but not too heavy.
I like it, really! 🙂
Flare/Chaff launchers
Some gloss cote for the ordnance.
Tail part. make sure you don't mix up the top and bottom colour, as I did the first attempt. Well, s**t happens!
The ordnance of the Viper. Not bad for a "light fighter"
first decals
The red stripe was painted with revell red over a white base.
Decals on the topside are all applied.
almost finished!

Looking good! Did you go for a silverish finish? It seems that there are metallic specles all over the aircraft.

Thanks! Yes, the "have glass" is a pain to paint. It's not glossy, but has a clear metallic shine, without being too metallic like alu. Image #40 captures what I think looks good. Unfortunately, the effect wanished again a bit after the gloss cote for the decals. Still happy with the result.

Hi Alex, did you know Tamiya has a full options version of this same kit that comes with gasbags and HARMs? Could have saved you a lot of trouble... I like your Have Glass though! 👍

Yeah, I know, I was too quick buying the first release. I should have waited a bit more.

Thanks Alex! Yes the "Have Glass" paint is a real pain. The greek Block 52+ Vipers are a prime example of "Have Glass" painting. Depending on the angle of light what you see will vary from pretty silverish to rather bland.
