Republic Star Destroyer

Album image #1
Underside with the side panels glued on and primed with Vallejo Light Ghost Grey primer (73.615)

Album image #2
Top of the hull and bridge assembled and glued together, primed with Light Ghost Grey

Album image #3
Engine section, primed and engine 'tubes' painted Metallic Gunmetal (Vallejo 71.072) rest primed in Light Ghost Grey

Album image #4
Stand 'knocked up' in Blender, basically rectangles with a 10° slope on the tops and printed on my Elegoo Mars2. Guns left on the sprue and primed Light Ghost Grey.

Album image #5
Stand works!

Album image #6
Some random panel masking ahead of the top coat which will be Pale Blue Grey (Vallejo 71.046) which is really close to the primer color but should give some variation once painted to break up the surface a bit.

Album image #7
It's subtle but you can see the difference, especially after a coat of clear matt.

Album image #8
Same random masking and pale blue grey basecoat applied to the top. Matt topcoat added too.

Album image #9
Stands get a coat of black.

Album image #10
Underside painted (not quite 50 😉) shades of Grey. Red stripe masked & sprayed Fire Red (Vallejo 71.084). Darker panels hand painted Light Grey (Vallejo 71.050) and the raised bits highlighted with Light Gull Grey (Vallejo 71.121).

Album image #11
Final paint on the underside of the hull. Mostly Medium Grey (Vallejo 71.114) with details in the rear bay with Panzer Dark Grey (Vallejo 71.056) and Metallic Steel (Vallejo 71.065).
Rear set of red stripes masked (8mm wide, 2mm gap) and again sprayed using Fire Red (Vallejo 71.084).
Just ordered some more Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear to seal everything ahead of a wash where I'll probably just aim to bring out the panel lines a bit, it doesn't want to be too dirty!

Album image #12
Underside gloss clearcoated with Tamiya TS-13 then a thin wash all over of Light Grey (Vallejo 76.515). Left to dry for ½ an hour then wiped back with a kitchen towel moistened with Vallejo Thinners. Engines coated with a light coat of Smoke (Tamiya X-19) then the whole lot matt coated with Vallejo Premium Color (Vallejo 62.062).

Album image #13
Engine bells hand painted with Sea Blue (Vallejo 71.089) then centres sprayed with White (Vallejo 71.001) to try to replicate the engine glow.

Album image #14
Upper hull started, same colours as before.

Album image #15
Sidewalls gloss clearcoated and washed with Dark Grey (Vallejo 76.517).

Album image #16
Cleaned up and lights added using White (Vallejo 71.001) then matt coated. That's everything done on the bottom part, just the upper hull to do.

Album image #17
Upper hull painting completed, gloss clearcoat then decals and another coat over those. Light Grey wash as before and then a matt topcoat.

Album image #18
Final Assembly with some lovely clunks and clicks 😄 as everything connected up

Album info

Finally, I've got around to starting this one. It's a big old kit! I have a few ideas for making a 3D printed stand and paint scheme.
