The reason this project was on hold is that I was never satisfied with my work on the chin intake, so I just put in on the side waiting for something to happen.
Something actually happened when I thought about getting the razor saw out and chopping the part away. Then I used technology to recreate another seamless part. Design is made on fusion and the part is printed with en elegoo Saturn.
Once the fit will be good, I will add some texture with lines and fasteners.
The part will be available for free on my cult space once it's judged ok.
I don't know atm of work will continue on the project, but at least this problem will be fixed
Cheers

I've been busy with the silouhette software, designing skulls and markings. Can't wait to throw paint at this one finally.

I could not wait having assembled the model to give it a shot of airbrush. Now I have to shade the skull up to give it some painted on effect.

Ha! "ugly badly angled and lighted phone pics taken during the construction" is my definition of "pictures" ;D
Great work with that chin 3D part, fits really well.

Hi David, yeah better warn the viewer, it's kind of insurance I won't get sued for eye sight problem after viewing.
I got a final version of the intake done, with panel lines, rivets and fastener done, but forgot to post pics of it. Will upload the file on my cults space.
Spanjaard, thank for you being here mate, your feedbacks are always appreciated! On the 3D front, may I recommend you fusion360, wich have a hobbyist license option, that is totally free. There is also a ton of learning videos available. I learned a lot watching Kevin Kennedy's channel. Cheers

Hobbyist license?! I would never have expected that from Autodesk! Thanks for the info, Mathieu

Thanks for the info Mathieu, but I do use Linux instead of windows, so may best option will probably be Blender (totally free). I believe fusion is only for windows systems

David, you are welcome, my version, in french is labelled « personelle, non commerciale » pretty easy for the translation. Cheers
Spanjaard, yes indeed there seems to be a lack of support for Linux, there seems to be folks using it under this os, but my knowledge is non existent so I won't comment on this.

Hi lads, small update in the form of trying to make the dark areas on the skulls.
I used Tamiya black panel liner applied with a brush, I'm happy with the half skull on the left side, but I think I will rework or redo the full skull on the right side.
Cheers

Hi, I have left the bench in favor of the PC. Have done a new wheel well with the protecting canvas. I had the CMK parts in stock, but tought they looked far off from the few pictures existing.
To get to this part, I modeled first the hard structure, that almost looked identical to the hasegawa parts then I aventured into the unkwown fields of surface moddig and tweaking.
Next step is to get theses parts printed.
Cheers

The P-40 wheel wells + canvas, 3d design and print. Painted and glued.
Very happy with the outcome.

Hi Spanjaard, thanks for still being here, hope you enjoy the ride as I do.
Small update with skinny love. I added the missing rivet lines with a good old wheel riveter. There are already a few lines depicted on the mold, but many to add. Tricky part was to find the correct spacing to align on what existed.
Cheers

Hi, I'm considering doing a switchable display for this model. While I keep original landing gear parts, I designed closed doors in fusion. The whole system is to be held by magnets like the Tamiya mustang. So both gear up and down will be possible.
For the gear up version, I modded a fuel tank with an acrylic pole. The fuel tank itself is fixed with steel pins inserting into tubes on the lower fuselage. It is removable as well to allow an un modified tank (without the pole) to slide in.
The pilot is painted and being strapped to its machine. I used the box pilot, with the post slightly changed.
DC engine, switch and batteries have been installed in the forward section.
