I am somewhat envious of people that build ship kits in 1:700 scale, because the availability of subjects seems more plenty in that scale. I am sort of comitted to 1:350 kits, as I like to not mix scale, or that is my plan anyway. 🙂

If you aren't into using an airbrush, perhaps working with brushes and pigments can help add some grime to your models. Though, I am not 100% sure if a gloss coat is required when working with pigments. Problem is, when adding an enamel wash on top of an acrylic gloss coat, you can safely remove the enamel wash with white spirit, if you aren't happy with the result. Unsure how that works with pigmens, if you don't have a gloss coat over the paint. Might be worth investigating I think.

I am only doing 1:700 for now because of cost; wife won't let me spend the money on 1:350. I so plan on doing a 1:350 USS John F. Kennedy once I can find a good kit and extras.
I haven't tried doing grime or weathering on any of mine, but have been thinking about it. I mainly paint with brush and for most of my projects I kind of like the flat look.
