Martlet Mk. I

Album image #1
The odd colors used in this build reflect the paint scheme used by Grumman for delivery of the first Martlets.

"The fuselage had been stripped at some point prior to 1964, but the Fleet Air Arm Museum team were able to locate tiny fragments of the original paint adhering to the panel joins and rivets allowing the conservators to ‘map’ the original camouflage plan. Indestructible Paints of Birmingham was commissioned to recreate the original colours, and the fuselage has consequently been repainted as closely to the original pattern as humanly possible."

She's very striking and you've researched Grumman's early export camo very well. Got an oddball F5F somewhere so thanks for the reminder. Nice crisp photography too. Congrats.

Thanks. I lightened the photos to make them look better but it makes the green look a bit too vivid. It is a really interesting scheme. I love the Wildcat so doing this one was a no brainer. I need to do an orange F6F now.

Yea. The FM-2 too in Atlantic livery is simply smart in its contrast. Compare with the not-so-exciting F6F - a fine fighter but ... plain and unexciting to look at in a modeling perspective.
