An update: today I've finally made a visit to the museum, and got a chance to take some photos of the Sh-2! I'm sorry for the quality of pics - the plane sits high, and my phone camera, combined with shaky hands and not very good lighting spoil shots a bit) Anyway, the experience of meeting this plane in person was great, and the feeling was even deeper, knowing that this is one of only two surviving originals!

Album info

Sometimes, you just feel a passion from your heart, a sparkling idea, coming from your own history, your place, your home. I was born, and still leaving in Saint-Petersburg, and specifically - in the place, where the Komendantsky airfield used to be. And near me, there is a street, named after Vadim Shavrov (and around there are lot of other streets with speaking aviation names). A first Shavrov's amphibian, Sh-1(proto-Sh-2), was built in an apartment in the heart of Leningrad (a USSR-period name of Saint-P), and was finally assembled on the Komendantsky airfield. This little, simple flying boat started the russian history of amphibian planes. And now I feel, that it's my duty to build a model of it's serial successor - the Sh-2.
