Nice...i have the same tank (but a kit made by Academy) on my table myself...but i only took this sheet around the cannon and the barrels...no Sandbags, bags, and other equipment...i stay after a picture in a book showing them nice and clean and neat in the desert. But i will follow your efforts...

You are right, I know the British army never used sand bags on their grants in the desert, or at least I have never seen a picture ... As far as I can tell the allied crews started using sandbags after D-Day ... but I'm not going to overdo it, maybe add a jerrycan or two on the rear deck and that's it ... it's my first build in 25 years ... it's an experiment ... one might even call it a symptom of a midlife crisis ... I'll see where my imagination and modest skills take me

I always say: "Do what you want, it´s your model!"...I am not after historic acuracy, i like to build nice kits after work to relax and calm down...and so i do not mind if somebody adds sandbags...and maybe some of the tanks in Africa had some of them on their bows...nobody can say but the former crew members...
Go on, and good luck in checking your skills!!!
I will stay tuned and watch where this get´s you!

I also put together the Academy kit and was not very impressed: the two halves of the hull did not come together at all! Hopefully this kit is better.

Well, the Tamiya kit has been around for 40+ years and it fits together easily so I think it is still a nice kit to start practicing with, but from what I have read I guess it's not as finely or accurately detailed as more modern kits, but apart from the apparently flawed academy kit, there is no other lee or grant available ...
I hope I can find some time this week to start priming and painting

My hull fits perfect, but the mudguards left and right do not fit...if the wheel transporting the track is attached they wont fit. needed 1 mm of plastccard on the rear fenders...
Inside i had minor problems, but after being finished with washing and so on 2 part broke out and i was unable to attach again...so all openings are closed now.

And i am no bolt-counter...so it doesnt matter if there are 16 or 18 bolts...

Album info

First build in 25 years. Bought a couple of kits the past two years. Finally came round to building one ... the venerable Tamiya M3 Grant. Easy to build, so I added some 'enhancements' from the start, to get the rust out of my fingers and explore the possibilities of all those detail and conversion sets that are available these days. Next: explore the possibilities of today's paints
