Major assembly finished. All seams needed filler. I used a few coats of Mr Surfacer 1000, easily cleaned with a cotton bud dipped in Tamiya Laquer Thinner. This method also saved the raised panel detail as no sanding was needed.

yeah all hase egg planes i've built so far were consistenly terrible with fit and decals, most of the times it takes the fun outta building these but i still love em 🙂

Cockpit from the Blackbird Egg slightly upgraded with some scratch-built items. Seat cushion, headrests and rudder pedals added, as well as a 72nd scale joystick from the spares box and some seatbelts manufactured from double-layered Tamiya tape. Not really accurate and authentic but hey, it's an Egg plane, so WTF, I'm having fun !

Perfect meteorological conditions today ... for modelling purposes, so out with the Blackbird Egg Plane ! The cockpit was puffed with Xtracrylix XA1133 Neutral Grey, too bright, I know, it's just to avoid getting too darksome inside when the roof is on top. Instrument panel is the kit supplied decal, complemented by decals from the ever thrustworthy spares box. Detail painting was done with Revell Aqua and Vallejo, followed by a Tamiya X-22 gloss coat (what else eh ?😉 ). A quick oil wash was applied and all was sealed by a coat of my favorite varnish, Alclad 2 Klear Kote, Semi-Matte in this case.

Blackbird Egg Plane is nearing completion. Over the past few days it received it's canopy, subsequently the canopy was masked and sprayed with Neutral Grey to match the interior colour. At the same time the whole egg, euh plane, was sprayed with the same colour to act as a primer. Thereafter some panels were picked out in plain black to break up the otherwise monotonous scheme, and masked. To complete the paint job, the remainder was painted with Tamiya Nato Black and given a coat of Tamiya Gloss in prep for the decal job.

Not much to say about the progress this time. Decals are on, typical Hasegawa decals, thick, rigid, and in need of a strong setting solution. I used the Microscale Set and Sol system as all surfaces are very smooth on this Egg Plane, but I would recommend stronger solutions (like Daco's Strong decalsetting) if you have to deal with raised and engraved detail. A coat of Alclad 2 Klear Kote semi-matte was applied and the undercarriage and engine nozzles were assembled and painted. Weathering was kept to a minimum, to be honest, none was applied. IMHO, an Egg Plane looks more like a toy and very cartoon-ish, so realistic weathering would look out of place (that's my explanation for being lazy...). Next time, final assembly, de-masking and he (or she ?) is ready for the display cabinet.
