Mitsubishi A6M5 Reisen, piloted on 19. June 1944 by Lt Yoshimi Minami from carrier Taiho.
Lt (Dai-i) Yoshimi Minami
Minami was nicknamed ‘Kashimura the second’, after he rammed a Chinese fighter over Hankow on 31 May 1938. Despide the fact that his left wingtip had been sheared off, he regained control of his plane and made an emergency landing on the banks of the Yangtze river. He served later on the carriers Hiryu and Zuiho. In February 1944 he was assigned to Kókútai 601, based on the new carrier Taiho. On 19 June 1944 he was belogned to 2nd chutai, 4th shotai and took part in an attack on the US Task Force during the Battle of the Philippine Sea (A6M5 No. yellow 311-25). After several dogfights, he was wounded, returned to the fleet and land on the damaged Taiho. After the sinking of Taiho, he was survived and served in the Kókútai 653. On 24-25 October 1944 he took part in the battle off Cape Engano (from Zuikaku). On 25 November 1944, now as a member of the Kasagi unit of the Tokko Force, he plunged hi
