nice project. Concerning the wood rendition: the base color looks like a promising choice. For the wood grain you might consider oils. Burned umbra would be my selection. With big scales like yours decals might work very well too. I find acrylics on top of acrylic quite hard to handle.
Anxious about your way and your result.

Album info

Back in the old days I use to drive these. This project is using a 3d body from TooManyProjects and interior parts printed for my by Brandon Hoffman.
Since this is a car I am way out of my element - building a big-rig is easy-peasy but a mostly 3d car is testing my skills for sure!

I am using the chassis and driveline from a Revell snap together '91 Caprice Taxi kit. I've lengthened the chassis and associated parts to account for the 3d wagon body's slightly longer length, wheelbase and rear axle track, as well as the clearances for the wagon body.

The 3d body represents a 1985-90 Chevrolet Caprice Estate. The Pontiac Parisienne Safari for those years had different woodgrain trim, I thought about creating the '85-89 Pontiac specific trim but couldn't settle on the proper shapes, so I am sticking with the '83-84 bright metal trim used on the Caprice and the Pontiac Parisienne Brougham. The Parisienne had different woodgrain vinyl and different body side molding than the Caprice.
The 3d body has had the Caprice Estate badges removed as well as the body side molding. I created new body side molding as well as windshield frame and hood trim from various Evergreen plastic shapes. I added Pontiac specific B-pillar trim.

I dragged a sharp scribe tool along all of the molded on trim detail to deepen line between body and trim, this will aid in trimming Bare Metal Foil after painting.

The 3d printed instrument panel is superb. The fine details are interesting in themselves. The headlamp pull switch is in the out/on position. The right hand outside mirror remote control knob is nicely detailed and there is a key in the ignition. Brandon's printing of this piece is super smooth and clean.

I haven't decided on a color scheme yet. I'm looking at white (similar to the brochure cars), taupe (light metallic brown) which was very popular in '83-84 or dark red (Claret or Torreador). Interior could be brandywine, dark brown or butterscottch tan. Each of these combinations were very attractive with the light woodgrain vinyl. Yes, I like fake wood. Primarily Pontiacs, but I do appreciate the others, the Pontiacs are "it" for me.

Thanks for looking!

Tim
