How do I search for decal sheets in the database? (third-party, not those in a kit)
e.g.: B-24 formation ships … thanks
13. August, 05:02
scalemates
I suggest to to search for "Decal options" (=the drop down on the left of the search box). Next you use the filters on the right hand side => and you select "Decals" under Product type

SCM Search: Consolidated B-24 Liberator

Alternatively adding "decals" to your search brings you already very close

13. August, 05:16
Diego DH
Tried 2nd suggestion and didn't work... how do you create in the database a "stand-alone" decal set?
13. August, 05:23
Diego DH
These decal sets are like accessories to a kit :)
13. August, 05:24
Diego DH
Just checked the entry of one such decal set... the "product type" is "decal" (but seems is the same type of record as a kit).
So... is there an easy way to search by "product type"?

Thanks Clifford!

Got the pre-shading done last night. No issues there, think it took me about an hour to do all of it. Hoepfully I will get the overall gray coat done tonight (this is an easy one, it's not TPS just overall Dark Ghost Gray). I will be out of town all weekend, so my goal is to have it ready to start decaling Sunday night.
12. August, 14:59

I guess the mottling (bringing a lighter color onto the black) helps covering up the black base when airbrushing a lighter gray over it all.
12. August, 15:05
Michael Phillips
In a way yes it is. The biggest benefit of this technique is to introduce organic patterning under the forthcoming basecoat to break up the uniformity. While there are many ways to accomplish this, in my opinion this is the easiest. Not meant to be a standalone effect, when used in conjunction with a wash and post shade weathering it can subtly add to the overall realistic finish on the completed model.
12. August, 16:15
Treehugger
Do you also use oils? Any stuff you can recommend? :) I've been wondering to maybe try out oils some time. I think I've learned that the overall effect is dependend on the density and the size of the dots of oil applied, what this guy on youtube found out. And then you can mix different colors instead of having just one oil color to work with. I guess some type of use might be simply artistic licence if overdoing the various colors.

Actually, I have never used oils. I bought some Abteilung Oils in black, gray, brown, and rust awhile back, but never actually used them yet. After seeing some serious results from several mates here, I may give them a try in the near future.

hi
Yes. And I'm serious modeler ;)
T-72B is 90% done
I did last week with BMP1 And last months a BMP2. Both with interior...
I"m on MT-LB and MT-LBu and BMDs.
I was sculptor for Propaganda Kompany (+ 1.000 Masters), ITA sarl ( 1/72nd & 1/87th), Mopicom( 1/35th & 1/87th ), JMP, Des Kit, JMGT...
7. August, 22:10
Patrick Hagelstein
:D Alright, that makes sense. So, all the modelers building those brand's models and claiming how good they are as modelers, are actually 'just' glueing and painting your hard work as master maker? ;) Cool to know! That brings people down to earth again. ;)

ITA Sarl, HK35 & HK87(other Mopicom's name) have been sold to United fun.
All 1//87th LVTP-7, LVT-2, LVT-4 and Reo trucks Families were sculpted from 1993 to 95
All 1/72nd France 40 and 1/87th from ITA are my creations
My last was the AMX 30 Pluton in 2003( an order).
For JMP-La Hoche, I've done a resin/PE conversion for Heller Gnome & Rhone AX2RM
For Des Kit, I've sculpted an AMR-35 and JMGT, a Avia S99 nose for Fujimi Me109 ...
And for Propaganda, 200 vehicules, 90 motorcycles, 400 figures, 500 weapons, 600 or 700 differents heads, a dozen of biscycles and 10 zodiacs...

BTW, I also own that Speed Racer fig. I also have the Racer X model, which:
a) is a completely different scale, or
b) Speed needs to hit the gym, because his brother is ripped.\ and makin' him look like a skinny weed.
The Dick figure is the best though. I'd almost trade you my Bob & Doug Mackenzie action fig diorama for it.

I think I have a Harbor Freight coupon for that tool chest behind Dick.

Is that finish enamel or acrylic? Looks like you have a coat of Future on it, ya? Beautiful work; where there any modifications made to accommodate the rims? And again, where you shaved the door handles et al. is just a great mod.
Cheers. On to the next build, ya>?

Stayed up late and hammered out the programming. Now that I have all the pin assignments I can get back to the plastic parts. Paint and nav lights to the lower hull later today.

Quick video of the breadboard layout. added a cannon effect for the wingtips which fires after the torpedo sequence. The flashlight was being used to look at the photocell values in bright light. The threshold may still need to be tweaked.

What's in the background of pic 15 (upper-right) that looks like a photoetch fret? Curious to know what details you're adding and if I might want to get the same photoetch set....
10. August, 23:43

Needed a break from making tiny holes...

Installed the lower hull nav lights and the nose assembly. the octopus of wires* juuuust fits thru the neck. There's still plenty of detailing to do and finish drilling out the red LED ring. On the upper hull, drilling out the 'portholes' for the interior lights. I'm using my dremel micro chuck with a #80 bit. To start i used that flexible attachment thingy and a foot pedal to drill out three holes in each porthole dimple. Then I use the micro chuck like a pin vise and work out a bit more plastic. Finally I shape the edges with a #11 blade and some needle files. On the sides I just cut a rectangle and replaced the middle 'sash' with some .5mm styrene. It's quiet, tidy work. There's only one opening I'm not happy terribly with.

So far I don't see a problem isolating and fitting all the LEDs & a common ground inside. Most of the interior is to be lined with sticky aluminum tape, which seals up little light leaks and is much more reflective than silver paint. I'm going to upgrade the support post, and I think I have a nifty idea for a display base.

I'm really itchy to start the wings. I may work down a few more portholes and start messing with the wing phaser cannon LEDs. Not sure if I should go with red or green for those phasers. The wire routing is going to be tricky there and at the wing root.

Best to All!

* for wiring, I peel the outer coating off some Cat5 cable, and there are 4 pairs of 28g stranded wire in there. Stranded wire makes for better routing.
10. August, 23:50
Gary Dahlström
@Starbase - I have some leftover PE from an old Tamiya Williams F1 kit; there are lot's of Klingon-like bits I can creatively apply to the hull.
11. August, 00:16
Gary Dahlström
...and back to tiny holes. I was working on the upper hull and was subconsciously nagging myself about that damn red ring around the torpedo tube. I just didn't like using the transparent part as a lens to illuminate the lower half only. I always tell my kids, if you don't like the way something is coming along, don't be afraid to start over; the results are always better than before. I ripped out the torpedo LED assembly and dremel-shaved the outer edge of part #7 to properly expose the surrounding divots that represented the ring openings. Then, back to it with the micro chuck and a #11 blade. Tacked the torpedo assembly back in. An early test with a button cell revealed that the whole ring is now nicely illuminated. I'm going to repackage the wire bundle so it fits a little less snugly thru the neck.

I'll post a pic when things are tidier and I apply a touch of epoxy. Not sure if I'm going to hit the openings with a bit of Krystal Klear.

The porthole cutting in the upper hull worked out nicely and I placed one of the red LEDs for the wing cannon. Pic in album. The latter looks pretty good and the wires will add a touch of detail. Routing them thru the wing and the root at the hull looks like it should not be too much of a challenge.

Best to all, and have been enjoying the work of others in my newsfeed. Will find a little time to comment directly. SO much nice work out there.

@Rui: The PE parts are almost all from the Voyager PE set. Only a few PE parts are from the kit.
I have some mixed feelings about this Voayger kit. Some parts are very usefull, others are unnecessary. There are also many parts that can not be used, if you use pictures/walkarounds of the original tank for the build. This parts are way to thin, to thick, to long or to short.
@Treehugger: I just use superglue (cyanoacrylate). The only "trick" that i do when gluing the PE parts toghether or to a plastic part, i roughen up the surface of both parts. Thats all.
12. August, 21:33
Ingo F
Thank you James! :)
The tracks are good. Easy to clean and every track is made from only two parts. You just need to glue the guide horn to the track. Easy to click together and the hold between the tracks is good. They wont fall apart.

Decal work is now halfway done. Only one issue emerged: Fox One has printed the USAF lettering in the same blue as the USAF roundel. That would indeed be correct when you look at the official painting specifications of that time for the Hustler. However, it seems that not all paint shops paid attention to those official specs as all the color photos I have seen look like the USAF lettering is rather black than dark blue. The old Italeri decals in my boxing are in black, but the decal film is impossible to hide on those old decals. Fortunately a friend owns a new boxing and will send me those new Italeri decals (black). And I'll try to get a new decal sheet from Italeri's spare part service to pay him back - quite the scheme :D

Looking awesome. Your mention of rigging reminded me that I have a bunch of ratlines still to weave on my pirate ghost ship. Add that to the ever-growing list.

How much rigging is on one of these mid-century warships? I see in the photos a couple of halyards on the superstructure and radar mast. Is there much more? Are you running your rigging line over some beeswax before installation? What are you using for line? Kit supplied or a model shipways product?

One of my handiest rigging tools is a couple of sets of alligator forceps. I'm not sure of your exact application, but if your unfamiliar, look at a pic and you'll instantly know if you need a set.

I am really enjoying this build; I'm building vicariously though your album. I was looking at the 1:200 Missouri, and tallying up the score for all the aftermarket goodies. But with three teens still in the house it's all fantasy; I'll have to wait for college to reclaim a room to display it.

Have you ever donated any of your work to a museum? Because, you know, that's where it belongs.

Gary, I use rigging thread of Infini models. Applied with CA glue (just a tiny drop) and I use tweezers to put them in place. Thank you for enjoying the build :). The Mighty Mo is in my stash, but it won't be the next project. Probably HMS Nelson in het BPF camo.

Never considered to donate my ships to a museum, except my own little warship museum ;). Personally, I don't think it has that quality. I've seen better and worse.

Today, I put the last 2 boats in place. Tricky stuff and I ended a bit with mess. So be it. It was the best shot a could give. A bit of rust weathering to camouflage the faults and then see what it gives

The rigging on the davit looks great - where is this "mess" you speak of? Tell me, the boat on the deck, what's it's purpose? It looks a bit like a pleasure craft. Perhaps to shuttle the skipper to shore?

It all looks fantastic. In that last pic I've been groovin' on the trio of searchlights.

Thank you Gary. The rigging on the davits is all made of PE. I had an issue with on of the belts broken during installation, so I had to make some repairs which left glue spots :(. What boat are you referring to? There are 13 boats on the deck :) The searchlight are a resin kit (within the Pontos set) They are very detailed. With the liquid chrome for the mirror it gives a nice effect indeed.

Lode: holy crap, I just noticed all the small craft in pic #228. I had no idea that these leviathans carried so many. I'll rescind the question in order to do my own research on what these were used for. They all look great btw.

So much PE, you must experience a little eye fatigue. What, if any, optical aids do you use? My paying job involves computers, so I wear a pair of Gunnar gaming glasses. I frequently reach for them when working with small bits. They provide a bit of relief from bright lighting and add a bit of magnification. Do you have any tips/tricks for working thru that much PE?

Thanks mates for your kind responses.

Thanks Roland, Michael, & Slavo!

I'm getting there slowly but surely. I'm fairly pleased with the result. The kit's textured surface looked goofy when unpainted but looks the part with black painted on. I may still add a coat of AK Matte Varnish (my Tamiya rubber black is in-route).

Interesting seeing the model next to a forest.

I've been wondering if I should make some trickery to my Challenger tank, by blending two photo, so that I can show this tank in a farm field, and remove the excess (the stand) so that the tank *maybe* looks like it is really in the field in 1:1 size. :) That way one can match the lighting and get some realistic shadows, and match it with the field nearby, if one takes the photos at the same time of day and with the same angle vs sun/shadows.
5. August, 19:42
Al
If you are using your phone's camera it has amazing capabilities to give depth of field or to bore down, I encourage you to do this! Also it's not trickery, it's art. Frankly I photograph outdoors because there is no substitute for sunlight to add realism.

I've just finished the Tiger I by Trumpeter and it's on my finish table for weathering, will post another album later this week. Having built the Tiger I by Academy, AFV Club and Tamiya, this was the best; the cast surface texturing was superb.

I love the shape of "Porsche"-turret Tigers. I'm having a lot of fun with this kit. I'm using Ammo of Mig Oilbrushers and enamel washes on the tank, I'm pleased with how it's working. I do not like the "DS" tracks at all. Other than that, this Dragon kit is very nice.
9. August, 18:56
Al
Good job, especially those numbers on the turret, did you hand paint that? I join you in not preferring the DS tracks that much; a little better than the 1970s hard vinyl tracks though.
11. August, 22:36
Anna-Elizabeth the Great
Thank you! The numbers are kit decals, I really worked them with

Mr. Mark Setter and Mr.Mark Softer, probably my best result yet. Aye about 70s style rubber bands.I think my other Tigers are getting Friul track sets.
11. August, 22:40
Al
I'm a big fan of the Friuls since I learned a shortcut to get around drilling each link and using that flimsy wire they provide.
12. August, 12:19
Anna-Elizabeth the Great
I saw about using steel staples on Youtube, may I ask what is your method?
12. August, 13:20
Al
I use glass head extra fine sewing pins. I make a jig out of scrap styrene to hold about a dozen links and then simply push the pins in. It's similar to the wires except you don't have to drill the individual links out. The pins are strong enough that you can slowly push them right through any of the burrs and minor blockages.
I have a block of beeswax that i stick the pins in first, it helps them kind of glide through.
When I finish the entire length I use a pair of sturdy wire cutters to trim the pins. It's kind of dangerous so wear glasses and have a bag that the pins can shoot into. I use a heavy magnet to pick up the ones that get away and shoot across the room.
Right now the glass head sewing pins have gotten a little more expensive, I get a box of 250 for $10 off Amazon.
The extra fine pins work for the bigger tank tracks, smaller ones I use patchwork pins/fine. They come in a pack of 100; works good for Friuls on smaller tracks like the RSO or my Landwasserschlepper.

I'll try to post some pics of my setup later tomorrow, it's really quite simple; can knock out a set in about an hour tops.

This is looking good, Chris! I love how you've got it all wired up with the lights. I've done some lights/motors on my builds, but nothing on this scale. Watching very closely.

You might have to wait a while on my carrier build... and one of them is going to end up with tank treads instead of a lower hull, so you might not recognize it. :)

This one that has been on my someday list for a long time, although I'm more likely to get one of the trumpeter Nimitz class kits, as it would be an in-service carrier for a while. I'm more hoping Airfix will release a QE class carrier in 1/350, which I'd buy immediately.

Eddie Mann@SCM Data
Is the topic:
SCM Topic: Prototypes (dont use)
in general use as there seems to be very little in it (11) considering the number of prototypes which have their own topic. Also has 2 planes and 1 car.

Similar with:
SCM Topic: Dozer
with 6 items, then there's:
SCM Topic: DT-74 DOZER 1 item,
SCM Topic: DT-75 2 items

It's the same with things like excavators, cranes, airfield tractors etc.
12. August, 20:16
Richmond
In respect of the dozers topic I moved the D7 to Caterpillar D7 - I am sure all the others could be moved to new /existing topics. The US Army tend to use CAT'S but some of the models here do not look like CATs to me and the box art is not helpful.

Unfortunately there is very little information on the Russian tractors on the web, perhaps the DT-74 Dozer topic should be renamed DT-74.

I am sure the excavators could be dealt with easily - I wouldn't be much help on cranes and airfield tractors
12. August, 21:20
Eddie Mann
It just looks as though new topics are being created for every random item like the ones I listed plus others instead of putting them into existing generic topics, Dozers, Cranes, Excavators etc. There's even one for a garden tiller (rotovator), SCM Topic: Honda F90

9. May, 20:25

@wilky - I was quite surprised when one came up on ebay (US) recently, and I managed to snag it quite inexpensively.
I hunted around the internet for images of all the known kits, as far as I can tell they're all from the same tooling (HP, CMR, NKR). If you learn that one is better than the others let me know!
10. May, 20:13
wilky
I see, so you're the one that bought it
I saw it but couldn't afford it due to shipping to Australia being very expensive.
I very much doubt that the NKR is the same tooling.
They were produced by a guy in Ballarat, Victoria. Australia in his shed.
Unless he sold the molds
10. May, 22:14
wilky
High Planes could be a rebox of the NKR seeing as both are Australian but it's just as likely that it isn't

That's alright, I haven't gone anywhere.
Not allowed, being in Victoria Australia we're under lockdown again due to SARS-CoV-2.
I recently purchased an NKR Wackett on ebay.
Would be stoked if I could get the other two.
My plan is to pay for the kit to be scanned so it can be 3D printed

Thanks Dominik, Pierre Michael, Roland, Daniel, Dieter, Frank & Spanjaard - many of you being in, or fresh from the Tomcat GB, sporting some of the most formidable paint- and weathering jobs of the year I am the more happy that you like this postcard from the other side of the curtain!

@Michael - the metal job was a really pleasant open-ended experiment with masking, freehand, drybrush & oil techniques, layer after layer of guesswork what will work well with/next to what to achieve an agreeable result.

@Daniel - I sort of expected it coming - While I have the Flanker measured from front to back & every angle & crevice in almost every version in my sub-concious mind, the Hornet - while a well-known sight - was a new territory to explore and work out the important areas & angles of view... :)
But truly, I realised that I seem to have a certain "momentum" for every build - like a battery full of motivation & energy at the start which dissipates in the process as I start to think more about the next build vs the ongoing one... Once this is spent, I find it hard to really put more "esprit" into it and just want to finish & go on... On the Hornet, this energy went in a large portion into the LG assembly and into fitting the Aires Parts into the Kinetic kit somehow... not leaving all too much for the rest. The GWH Flanker was so good a kit that I arrived at the paint-job practically at the peak of my enthusiasm gauge... But yeah, the photobox does the trick, really ;)

I do not know much about the Galdhøpiggen learning curve and I am not sure I want to know more... :D

I see the kit is being reduced to a rough "guideline" for a Tomcat model. Hope all your intentions will bear fruit as you want them too, you´ve invested quite a bit of effort into this horse & it´d be a shame if it would suffer a critical incident now. Good luck with the canopy & looking forward to see the next steps!

I do like try doing my best, but if it isn't as good as I hoped in the end, I got some needed practice. I am often humbled by how difficult it seems to get rid of sems and other pits and dents in the plastic. :)

TODO: 1) Figure out how to add the wings so that they slide or snap into place, because I need to have them loose for painting. 2) Figure out the two big air intake areas. 3) Clean up the two fuselage parts just inbetween the two air intakes. 4) Various clean up. 5) Figure out how to add canopy and nose wheel well. I'll probably glue on the canopy by itself, then somehow glue on the wheel well by itself and then I guess try glue on the smaller bottom part of the fuselage where the wheel well is. Then.. add the nose, and try clean up the nose without scratching the now glued on clear parts on the canopy. :|

I will have to try see if I have any spare decals, because the ones I have aren't good. I might get lucky, I have some boxes with spare parts, decals and stuff. :)

Also, it will be fun working with the landing gear, because I want to try add a shiny metal rod, and I will be using resin wheels, where you don't have to freaking mask the wheel at the center. :)

Yep. The kit is amazingly detailed. However, I'm struggling with some of the photo etched parts... I find it quite difficult for example to bend nice curves into the lamp protecting structure. But still this is an amazing kit. Can't wait to start to paint it.
24. October 2019, 21:14
Treehugger
I imagine you can bend photo etch in two ways. One is to roll over the PE with a round object, until the plate starts to curve. The other, finding a tool for the purpose, or some other cylinder of proper dimensions to bend the PE around. Presumably, it is a good idea to have a flush and non-soft working mat/pad, and not try rolling PE over some soft or dented surface.

Don't hold much hope for this being accurate after both B-52G and the B-52H kits have some big mistakes! Might stick with the Monogram kits and use the Barracuda and Leading Edge conversions!

I am guessing that kit makers look at other kit maker's released kits, and then everything goes wrong from there. Proprietary drawings is perhaps next to impossible to acquire I suspect, but perhaps doable to some extent in some licencing deal with an airplane manufacturer. I always disliked buying "licenced" kits btw, it makes me feel I am funding war/war equipment manufacturers. Sometimes I only see the "licenced" mark after I bought a kit.

Count me in! I have this kit as well, but have heard some not-so-nice things about the fit and engineering of this kit. Looks like you are taking care of business here though. From what I understand the intakes are a nightmare.

I'll check in here as well - experience tells that it should be a nice journey to watch ;) So is there an actually good Eurofighter kit in 48-scale?
10. August, 06:36

Thanks for your nice & funny comments! The intake is literally a dozen pieces which need to be aligned, really tedious. But looking at others finalized Eurofighter, it can look good, and that keeps me motivated. And yes, it was also a bit of a disappointment to find out that there is actually no good kit of the Eurofighter in 48-scale. I think it's a good looking jet in reality and it would have deserved sth better.

So after working a bit with filler & putty I sprayed some black color to check and I'm quite happy with it. The gaps near the vertical stab are gone and also the cockpit area looks ok, there is a bit of a step behind the instrument panel, where I'm unsure if the real one has that. But as there was a huge gap before I can accept how it looks now.

What topic should items like Sensor Bands (JT-Graphics JTG-G04, 1:537) get assigned to? They are generic decals for use with any movie-era 1:537 Federation starship kit, and we're not supposed to use topic "Star Trek" anymore. This specific product is incorrectly assigned to SCM Topic: Federation Command Cruiser which there are not any kits existing in 1:537 scale (anywhere, not just on Scalemates). Ideally this should show up as a related product for any movie-era 1:537 Federation starship kit.

1:537 Sensor Bands (JT-Graphics JTG-G04)

12. August, 15:21
Starbase101
At the very minimum, this would be topic "Starship Constitution-class (Refit)", but these decals are also valid for "Starship Miranda-class", and others in the database. Defining as multi-topic would mean manually assigning each potentially-compatible topic and wouldn't automatically pull in newly-created topics.
12. August, 16:21
David Jung
Maybe delay that item until the end when you have all the Topics sorted away?

Picking up new topics for a multi-topic item was an issue I was wondering about the other day.
12. August, 18:08
scalemates
Currently the best is to assign this to "1 topic"... i'll use it as an example to implement the improved "multi-multi-multi-multi-whatever feature = already started
12. August, 18:18
scalemates
Another option is to create a topic "sensor bands"
12. August, 18:20
Starbase101
Don't create a "sensor bands" topic - there are other decal sets (not sensor bands), photoetch, and resin parts that are multi-topic (for use with any ship within a given scale....and actually, also decal sets containing multiple scales). Having a separate topic for each one is impractical, and then how would they get linked as related products to the various kits they're designed for and compatible with? Manual multi-topic assignments isn't very dynamic, but is probably the best route for now. I'll re-assign this to "Starship Constitution-class (Refit)", and add Miranda-class as an additional topic. Currently I'll only be able to link this to kits of the main topic.

Also, what version? II or III? plutonium chamber or Mr Fusion? 1885 parts on the hood with 1955 wheels? Watching with keen interest!

@Erik, yes, that was my idea too, to use prefab LED strips. I want this to be a relatively quick build, not a year long project while I am learning to solder properly... ;)

I used such a strip inside my Sabena DC-3 see Douglas Dakota | Album by opadesmet (1:72) and Youtube Video . Thelittle house on the scene is from GPM control tower :

I did not finish the control tower itself, it is also delicate, but I have no project to use it.

I see you have reached the most tricky part - the grid assembly.
My parts became bit wavy once put together, but your skeleton looks much better.
You can seal the paper using some kind of epoxy or soak it with CA glue. I went for the latter and just sprayed it with quick-drying car paint using a rattle can.
12. August, 13:40
Thomas Kolb
Łukasz, yes, I noticed that the roof grid has a tendency to be a bit wonky so I needed to work slowly, section by section and let the glue dry properly between the sections. I will also add three lateral cross-beams, one in the center and one on each side to give it some stability, before adding the roof to the lower walls. Thanks for the tip on impregnating the material with CA! I actually did some spray painting with Tamiya acrylics on a cutoff piece and couldn't see any negative effect as long as I sprayed consecutive thin layers.

Funny that you mention X-Wing fighter in pic 20 - that's what I thought at first glance from pic 1 and was thinking you'd be dressing up an X-Wing cockpit with Eduard photoetch, until I saw "Sleepy Time Gal" and thought maybe you were doing a Black Widow version of an X-Wing, until my eyes finally focused and I realized "Cool! Another P-61 build!" I guess all you need now is an R2-D2 dome in place of the top turret, which will then also resolve the gun barrels issue. (And some wide red striping!) :)

Why do some products show a Markings section even though no markings are specified, for example Deep Space Nine (AMT/ERTL 8764, 1:2500) , while other products correctly do not show a Markings section when there are no specified markings, such as Deep Space 9 (AMT 751, 1:3300)

Very nice! I'm suspecting you have watched Nightshift's channel on YT intently! I did too, but I don't get the same effect on rolled armor plates yet. Maybe I should mix more cement into the putty.

Thank you,
Someone else reminded me of tamiya putty.
Using 2 layers, one overall with small flat brush and a second one with roundbrush on random spots, so you get an uneven result.
1st is quite liquid 2nd is just a little bit cement and just stippled on the surface thats it.
For cleanup/ brushes and kit: Mr. Hobby Leveling thinner, which even can be used to thin the putty. Actually works too but needs more layers. But be careful it can dissolve the previous layers.
Than sanding and washing (yes fully with soap and brush) the effect shows almost instant.
Thank you for the site, read it already quite informative compared to most other reviews.

Can we have topic SCM Topic: Romulan Bird of Prey (Enterprise) renamed to "Romulan Bird of Prey (Enterprise)" for consistency with SCM Topic: Starship Constitution-class (Discovery) and SCM Topic: Starship Constitution-class (alternate reality)

("Enterprise" is the name of the TV show that this topic is exclusive to, just like the "Discovery" case for clarifying an otherwise duplicate/ambiguous Starthip Constitution-class topic.)
12. August, 13:16
12. August, 14:37
Starbase101@SCM Data
Fellow Star Trek enthusiasts, I would like to take on the task of cleaning up the Star Trek category regarding proper/correct data populated under Decal Options (poor name, since it encompasses more than just decals). The existing template doesn't quite work cleanly for Star Trek subjects:

1. Topic
2. Type
3. Usage
4. Country
5. Organisation
6. Unit/Team
7. Number
8. Nickname
9. Color schema
10. Pilot/Driver
11. Year
12. Month
13. Event
14. Location
15. Country (yes, repeated)
16. Result

1. Topic is self-explanitory, that must be populated for each topic in a multi-topic product.
2. Type should probably be the same value as Topic, since that is what gets displayed as headers under "Markings" when viewing a product. Also for starship classes, it makes sense that this would be the type of starship, which typically is the topic anyway - such as "Starship Constitution-class"...that is the vessel's type.
3. Probably "Civil" for Starfleet vessels and "Military" for Cardassian, Klingon, Romulan?
4. There are no "countries" in the Star Trek time period, so maybe this field could be used for the planet name? For example, UESPA (United Earth Space Probe Agency) means there is a United Earth rather than separate countries, so maybe values like Earth, Kronos, Romulus, etc. Open to suggestions, or leave it blank.
5. Could be "United Federation of Planets", but Earth's spaceships are registered with "Starfleet". (Similar situation with Klingon, Romulan, etc.)
6. Seems this would be left blank...
7. At least for Starfleet vessels, the ship's registration number, such as "NCC-1701".
8. Although not a "nickname", this is probably the best field for entering the *Name* of a vessel, such as "U.S.S. Enterprise".
9. Probably left blank.
10. I doubt we want starship pilots entered here (helm officers). It's probably more useful to populate this with a ship's commanding officer. When a ship had multiple captains, such as the Enterprise (Pike and Kirk), probably enter the latest/last captain?
11. Some database entries have this field populated, but I don't think this is meant to be the commission year or decommission year - it looks like this is meant to be the date (and month) of an Event for the subject.
13. Only should be populated if the subject is associated with one (and ONLY one) specific event, otherwise left blank.
14. Location where the Event occurred, usually will be blank.
15. Country where the Event occurred (this will surely be blank for everything in Star Trek).
16. Result of the Event, again probably left blank.

Any comments/suggestions before I start on this?

So, has an agreement been reached regarding the Markings standardization for Star Trek kits? Enter only what's included on the decal sheet(s)...i.e. no Date (unless the markings are specific to a particular date), no Pilot/Driver/Captain (unless included on the decal sheet), "Civil" for Starfleet vessels, Country is "United Federation of Planets" or ("Klingon Empire", etc)? Anything that I missed?
12. August, 01:15

I see a mix of "Starfleet" being marked as "Civil", some "military" and some empty. What is the correct setting and can we bulk change? if not I can fix accordingly.

(Regardless of any bulk change, each kit still needs visual review for correctness since it's not strictly Markings to be fixed. I've already found kits having no box art photo, incorrect brand, missing product number, etc)

bulk fixing certain things will also make sure that certain new entries would become consistent in an automated way in the future.

Starfleet = Civil?

Most of the time, yes Starfleet will be civil. I think there might be some craft that were built specifically for military use and those can be overridden as I find them.

what a horrible kit this kp one is... nothing fits right... it will take me lots of putty and sanding to fix the nose and other areas. The seat simply had no suports to stand in place, again I had to scratchbuild.

Thank you Ekki. I think it is almost ready. I am not very much up to date with pictures. I am not much of fotographer. The kit is very bad, and I am also a basic modeler so in a couple of weeks you will see the end result. Best regards

thx Lukasz.

Next up was the refueling probe. That was a plastic part, mainly 0.5mm diameter, that needed to be bent... recipe for disaster I thought, so I've replaced it with some brass rod (more solid then copper wire)
The template from Eduard isn't up to scale, and shows the wrong bend so I had to change in the end...

Redid the refueling probe... it extended too far, and still wasn't right... then closed the canopy before painting... did some dryfitting before, but the seat was a tad to heigh, so had to remove it, some unwanted thing were also removed in the process, so from an easy job to a full afternoon... finally it was closed up... now, deepen the panellines or not...

I like seeing the white just inside the top opening, I am no expert, but I think I've heard that it was painted white inside. For the longest time, I had this overall dislike to this type of tank, but then I learned that they were apparently easy to escape out of, so not the death trap I once thought they were.

Hello, it looks like the CSS is broken on the product timeline for this model: Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc/XVI (Revell 04554, 1:48)

I'm on macOS 10.15 and in both Safari and Chrome I see two lines going from the selected model to the original new tool, and the new tool is escaping from the top of the table.

Three pictures of the opening of this project: very classically Special Hobbies Re.2005 starts with the cockpit. A mixture of rather rustic plastic parts and some etched part refinements give an idea of the narrowness of these Italian cockpits.

Re. my previous negative experience with the very first use of the Benchvent ventilator product BV300S-D:

1) It seems to me now as I have taken apart the first filter I used (I had it stored away for a long time), it looks like paint did fill 100% of the entire area for the fine particle filter at the front, which is also where the clogging happened I think.

2)My initial thought about the paint pigments being stuck at the center was wrong.

3) Still, quick clogging is apparently possible, and you don't notice it unless you check the airflow coming out of the exhaust pipe every time (I can do this, and I am doing it now to detect clogging), or change filter much quicker to be on the safe side. It seems that airbrushing on Vallejo primer and paint at 40 psi (now I use psi of 25'ish) probably was what made my first filter clog up.

4) Because of how the first filter had clogged up so rapidly, with really no air going out the exhaust pipe (ugh), I thought maybe there was a design flaw, because it looks a little funny imo when the intake inside the machine is aimed at the center but also at a small area of the filter area, and I was wondering if maybe the filter was pressing onto the filter and maybe clogging up too soon that way if clogging just a little round area in the middle of the filter.

I guess, now that I airbrush at a lower psi, probably using less paint, and when I get to check the airflow befoer every time I use it, I am happy using this spraybooth with my Vallejo paint.

If you can, I would recommend checking the airflow BEFORE you start airbrushing if, or, change the filter more rapidly because of how a filter can be clogged in about a week. The important part is that you don't want to end up with a situation in which the air doesn't get sucked out anymore because there is too much paint on the filter.

Between the 2 photos he had, and a reference book, the Marines seemed to really love the M117's. Book said so much so they frequently had to "borrow" USAF stocks of them.

The angle of the reference photos makes it difficult to tell how many they have loaded, but the Weapons box only comes with six. So I figure, 2 on each side of the center MER (For a total of 4) and then one each on slung under the wings. :)

Some fill work yet to be done of course on her.
