Junkers Ju 86P over Russia 1941 "MINI GB Junkers 86"
Start of construction: for a first impression of the kit, I removed the largest parts from the frame as usual. Everything seems to fit together reasonably well.
First tiny parts glued to fuselage.
More etched parts glued to the cockpit.
After comparing it with the original drawings, the cockpit was changed again in a few places - unfortunately, RS's interpretation was wrong.
First colors applied.
Cockpit almost done.
Now you have to create the openings for the camera windows yourself - but is there something wrong with the drawing in the instructions? At 29mm, the window lands far too far back.
Ok, lets try it with 19 mm?
Now we have a reconnaissance plane 😉
The fuselage halves are glued and the transparent parts are attached as a test: here and there some filler is needed.
Dry fit between fuselage and wings: more gaps.
Camera dummies were built with plastic tubes.
Wrong side windows?
According to this picture yes - it should be the bulged windows:

The bulged windows look very bad.
But fortunately they are not needed for my planned variant:

The Ju 86 from the linked picture from the last post is said to be an R variant.

The resin landing gear is prepared for painting.
Grinding and engraving work completed

Flaps mounted - nothing for shaky hands.
Now we are ready for the fun part - painting!
First weathering steps...
All white markings for the Mediterranean had to be painted over.
The plane has received its markings - the model is slowly turning onto the finish line.
Almost done...

Well done so far. You had the same problems as Daniel fitting the engines?

The P variant of the Ju 86 had different engine cowlings than the R variant - the parts in the kit are therefore different. The fit could have been better, but it wasn't as dramatic as Daniel's model.

Not quite yet - there are still a few smaller parts that need to be glued on before painting.
And then it is not yet clear which version of the exhaust pipes fits my planned version?

After I found out that my livery was not a P version of the Ju 86, but an R version, I was very frustrated - the project was paused at this point. 😭

Then make a WIF out of it, not continuing all the nice work would be a shame

Change in the project - a Ju 86 P-2 is now being built here, which was used in 1941 over the Soviet Union to prepare for Operation Barbarossa.
Later in the year the machine was converted to the P-3, the following photo shows the aircraft after conversion:

From construction, the colour modulation to the exhaust stains, all came out perfect.

Great paint job again!
But even more impressive is the rate of your finished models! If you continue like this, you will have every existing aircraft type in your cabinet until the end of your life.
