The "brown box" was the first release, a new tool, while the "blue box" was the second release, with a new box and a new part. Note the product numbers. The "brown box" was GC 300:149 and the "blue box" was GC 300:200. These indicate, respectively, "Gold Cup (series) #300 MSRP $1.49" and "Gold Cup (series) #300 MSRP $2.00." The new part included with "blue box" GC 300:200 was a small sheet of self-adhesive chrome foil ("included in this kit - chrome trim" is stated on the box).

if you are 100% sure and can back it up, go ahead and edit the time line accordingly.....this is an open database

Further research reveals that Jo-Han GC 300:149 ( "brown box" ) was indeed the first release of the Chrysler Turbine kit - but in 1965, not 1964. I've verified this with ads found in Car Model magazine, March 1965 ( "$1.49 ... It's here at last! ... Jo-Han is proud to bring you this exciting car in an authentic 1/25 scale kit." ) and Model Car Science magazine, October 1965 (" $1.49 ... Now available at all leading hobby stores." ). Also, the cover of Car Model magazine for October 1965 announces the "latest hottest custom kits" and shows the Jo-Han Chrysler Turbine. I can provide scans of both ads and the cover. I haven't yet been able to verify an exact year for Jo-Han GC 300:200 ( "blue box" ), the second release with a new "part" (self-adhesive chrome foil).

Wim is right. If you're sure, go ahead and make the edits. Proof is good, it not strictly necessary. It does come in handy in the event of a kit with a disputed history though.

Hi Greg. When I go to the Chrysler Turbine entries via Google (without logging in to Scalemates), the edits are already there, including the timeline. What am I missing? Thanks.

I see that you made some edits. I'm not familiar with this kit at all, but the timeline isn't particularly complicated. The brown box is correctly labeled "new release/tool" but it is still linked to the blue box. That link should be the other way around. It shows correctly in the time line because the brown box has a a year (1965) which always comes before an approximate year (196x). The only thing I would do to fix the timeline is unlink the brown from the blue and then link the blue to the brown as a rebox.

Oh, and you should also relink the subsequent boxings to the original tool (brown box) as well since they're currently pointed to the blue box. All clear?

Done. Thanks Greg.
