Chaz Gordon You can put them side by side, the side flaps clip off fairly easily to allow this, but it looks like you would need to use some bulldog clips to hold them together and support the top cover at the centre. The lighting bar will help with this a bit. On the subject of the lights, talk about BRIGHT!!

The booth size is pretty generous on it's own, I wouldn't think I'll need to size up for a while, although I think 1:32 aircraft would be too big for it, the 1:24 cars & trucks and 1:72 aircraft I have in the stash will work great in there.

Normal single piston kits, will fit perfectly into it - you can always remove the side walls if you need to.

Chaz Gordon The hose is a pretty neat design, looks like standard Drier hose, the outlet end could either be just hung out of an open window, or the window vent attachment is the perfect size to wedge into the opening on my double glazed windows on the child catch. When you are done with the exhaust hose, you can collapse it back into a 2 foot long self supporting tube and stash it in a corner. The hose is a bit like the bendy bit on a plastic bendy straw, when compressed, it's solid, when stretched it's flexible, but stays in whatever angle/curve you put it

Treehugger I like how this extractor has a flat exhaust part. Seems like a good idea to keep the window opening as shut as possible, if it is cold outside. Brrr.

Olivier Cold is still far better than inhaling the fumes, hum, sorry, the paint.

Łukasz Gliński This one is pretty useful, I have the same looking thing for over a year now and even can spraying is not an issue anymore. Just remember to clean the filter on a regular basis.

Chaz Gordon Tried it out for the first time today. The lights are very good, but unfortunately make it difficult to see the vertical side facing outward, so it is difficult to determine the liquidity of the paint applied on vertical surfaces. No big deal for Matt finishes, but tricky for Gloss. Will need to add a strong light over my shoulder to cover this.

Otherwise, the extraction is superb. I note the filter doesn't catch all of the paint, as there was some residue on the fan outlet when I packed it up, but the hose didn't seem to have much in it, so hopefully there is nothing on the outside of the window frame.

Struggled a bit with getting the location of the paint stand right when painting the vertical surfaces, airline kept bumping into the front edge, stopping me getting the brush at 90º, but a swivel connector might take care of that.

It's a learning curve for sure, I'm far more used to spraying full size cars. Comparatively speaking, the size of an airbrush on a 1/24 model, against the size of a siphon gun on the real thing, is more like painting a car with a pressure washer.

Bill Gilman Not sure I'm the expert on this, but I'll try to help.

I use three airbrushes - the first is an old Paasche Model H single action, external mix, siphon feed brush. (Single action means the trigger just releases air, the paint flow is adjusted by manually setting the nozzle; external mix means the paint and air mix together outside the airbrush; and siphon feed means that the paint reservoir is below the brush and the paint gets "sucked up" . I use this for primer and broad coverage of paint, although with its three different needles you can get fine lines. I use it for about 90% of my work. It's incredibly easy to clean.

Next I have a Paasche Talon, which is a double action, internal mix siphon feed brush. Double action means the trigger controls airflow (by pressing down) and paint flow (by pulling back) and internal mix means the paint atomization occurs inside the airbrush. It's a good brush for fine detail and broad coverage.

Lastly, I have a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity Two in One double action, internal mix, gravity feed airbrush. Gravity feed means the paint cup is above the airbrush and flows due to gravity. I use this for extremely fine detail, as I have a very small needle in it.

I'm in the USA, and I buy all my airbrush supplies from spraygunner.com. Really helpful folks - I see you're in OZ, so I can't help you there.

I've tried other airbrushes owned by my modelling mates, like Badger, Aztec, Iwata, Grex, etc. Of those, I liked Iwata best. My OPINION, however, is that Harder & Steenbeck are the absolute top of the line for quality and the precision of components. They are also one of the most expensive. My Talon is a good middle-of-the-road airbrush, and my Model H is my workhorse. This may sound odd, but you don't need the most expensive airbrush to do good work. You just need to know how to use what you have. There is also a bit of artistry involved.

My advice is to seek out fellow modellers (are you in a club?) and see if you can try out different airbrushes. There is nothing better than getting your hands on an actual airbrush and putting it through its paces. If you can't do that, sometimes the airbrush companies give demonstrations at modelling shows, etc. Alternately, this site...

PS. There are a lot of airbrush "clones" from China on eBay, etc. that sell for incredibly cheap prices. Some of these are quite good, and others quite bad. There seems to be little consistency, and you don't know what you have until you get it. Buyer beware as they say.

Wim van der Luijt congrats, I have the same one....I would recommend getting the open air cap if you spray a lot of Vallejo paints, it will make the cleaning of the needle tip easier when your paint starts to dry on the tip.....I only ever use my 0.2 needle[img1]

Jos Jansen Thanks Wim, a good suggestion ... I work a lot with Ammo from Mig Jimenez. You can use this paint directly from the bottle, but I always add a little bit of thinner so that I have almost no dried paint on the tip of the nozzle.

Grease Monkey Yes indeed. good quality. I found out that the Badger needs to be cleaned. Probably a little bit of paint where the needle is comming out of the nozzle. Nothing what a bit of thinner can't solve .

Thomas Mayer I clean my airbrushes using Revell´s Airbrush Cleaner. In case of very resistant clogging (absolutely very rare) some Nitrocellulose thinner helps. But in about 99% Revell´s stuff does the job.

Kevin Ekstrom You can buy a good airbrush cleaning set on eBay for under 5.00 USD. I wouldn't waste extra money for a name brand cleaning set. You're only paying the extra for the branded name.

Moritz Fentzahn I had such a gun for almost a year, then the first parts, especially the sealings get brooken. This became a problem because the sealings are not offered as replacement equipment, so the whole gun was ripe for the trash can. My advise is to buy a gun with good replacement-part support. I use the H&S evolution silverline too. I am very pleased with this tool and can fully recommend it. Buying cheap stuff implies to buy this stuff twice

Michael Hickey I had a cheap airbrush for about 7 years and it never missed a beat. I don't really believe it's the quality of the airbrush that makes it good but more important to keep it clean and get used to what you are using. You can't go and buy an expensive airbrush and expect it to work miracles until you are familiar with it. I've got this Badger, Aztek A7778 and Pasche Talon, all are for certain paint brands. The Badger for Alclad II, A7778 for Vallejo, AK and Mig and the Talon for Gunze and Tamiya.

I just think for the money it's a great starter set, I'm really glad I didn't buy an expensive airbrush straight away and made my initial mistakes on some cheap airbrushes first as I broke a couple of them through novice ineptitude

But the compressor is good though, sure there are better ones with bigger air tanks for more money etc. but it gives smooth airflow and is easy to use etc. I like it, one of my wisest purchases ever

Burkhard D That AS186 is kind of a generic compressor sold under different brand names. I got one for EUR99 over here, under the 'WilTec' brand. Great for the recreational modeler, but if you are spraying frequently and have longer sessions, the air tank is too small. I'd go for something with at least a 5 Liter tank then.

Choppa Nutta Yeah a bigger air tank would be nice but the 3 liter one it has works well, even if it does kick the compressor on more often during longer sessions, but the airflow remains smooth which is the main thing for me, using lower pressure settings help though

You're right though Burkhard I don't think it would be suitable for a professional all day every day constant running workshop but for the regular hobbyist it works well, I've had had no problems with it during longer sessions, just have to keep an eye on the cylinder head temps,
I've been thinking about attaching a PC cooling fan on to the head of mine for those longer sessions

For me it was the best compromise price v quality, it will be long while before I feel the need to upgrade it, although if & when I do I would probably go for a 10 liter air tank

But after all everybody has to decide what he wants to buy, but I can really recommend to think about it, because if you buy the Revell set, you will definitely buy a better set a few months later - for me it was only a few weeks later.

Urban Gardini It's one of the easiest airbrushes to strip and clean so the maintenance is a piece of cake. I've got this one myself. I never use the small cup and I use the 0.2mm needle about 90-95% of the time. It suits me perfectly and I'm comfortable with it.

Marc Stecher Ok, NOW I know the difference between a 20 bucks chinese copy and a real airbrush gun. Oh boy, I am deeply impressed how smooth working can be. Very fine an stable spray, no spitting, no clogging and, as you said Urban, very easy and fast to clean. It´s a whole new kind of working now. Since I had to spray whole planes, I used the 0.4mm needle, still need to test the 0.2mm when it comes to the camouflage of the planes. For large jobs (like my coming 1:16 tank), I additionally ordered the 0.6mm needle.

Robbie Yep, I have had mine for over 10 years now. Been replaced once. In my case I got a crack in the opening where you put the paint cup. Of the dozen or so AB's I own, this one I use the most.

JOHN THOMAS Hunter, I have not sat down and used the Harbor Freight airbrush yet. I know when it comes to airbrushing it's the operator not the brush most of the time when it comes to airbrushing. I like the Badger. I have gotten good results with it. I will let you know about the Harbor Freight one when I have used it.
