Robert W Martel I wanted to check out a different manufacturers tank kit. I have several Revell, Tamiya & Italeri kits so far. This HB kit has a detailed Ford engine, but no crew or inside detail. The kit detail looks quite nice /w casting numbers on the turret & hull. Rubber tracks look real good. And this thing has LOTS of parts (325).
I must say I like HB's packaging, there's thick foam in the bottom of the sturdy box and some of the more delicate parts have foam wrapping, and foam on top. You can't say this box is oversized w/lots of empty space like so many do. As a matter of fact it could have been a bit deeper, as I couldn't comfortably fit all the sprues back in the box without leaving the top piece of foam out. It was packed too tight to suit me.
Anyway, looks like a real nice kit. $36 shipped from China. Next I want to get an AFV Club kit, maybe one w/working suspension and some inside turret detail.
I'll make up an album so anyone interested can look.

I've also painted the lower hull and the wheels (and this tank has a lot). Next I need to do some color modulation or at least some highlighting and to be honest I think I need to change the hue of the Olive Drab color. Since this is a tank built at the end of WWII I think it should be more towards green. Looking at pictures I see that OD in the beginning of WWII had a more brownish-yellowish (kind of ochre) hue, while towards the end it started to veer towards green-grey. While towards Vietnam era it's almost a very dark green.

Anybody has any advice on what I should try ? I'm thinking of doing a filter with a thinned Vallejo 71013 Yellow Olive or 71015 DarkGreen RLM71, maybe 71016 USAF OD (but this is not right for an Army tank ?). Any ideas anyone ?

Then i use some putty and wired them...now i am waiting it's gonna work or not.

I never read a review on a kit...but with this one i found some small fitting problems

I am continuously working on extending my WWII Allied ground forces library since it is not as extensive as my WWII German related library. I need much more (technical) informational books on especially British / Canadian armor.
Much harder to find good books on Allied (non-US) armor unfortunately. Sherman books aplenty but, f.i., British & Canadian gun tractors... ?? I can't find a single book that has the (technical) info I am seeking. Yeah, a couple of walk around / pictures books and one or two pages of "highly detailed" information in books on artillery guns. But that's about it

So anyway, with the Hunnicut book on the M26 I am going to see how I can model an accurate WWII T26E3 and T26E4 version. If push comes to shove, I will 3D model and 3D print the parts that are either missing or incorrect which is where the importance of proper technical information comes in; measurements and exact layout of parts, etc.

I am slowly getting all the oil paints I want and need, buying alot with each orders lol, and I totally undrrstand about the heat, im on vacation in florida and its hot as hell lol, evencat home it hot as heck lol, cant airbrush which sucks because I want to practive color modulation.

John Van Kooten Hehe! Yeah, I guess you can relate to the heat problem then Great place to be though! Florida!

Airbrushing is almost impossible with such high temperatures. The paint (partially) dries before it reaches the surface, plus the paint dries to fast when it is on the surface (and in the cup of the airbrush even before it is being sprayed!), which makes for very bad bond between paint and surface. It also makes the paint look "flaked" and rough. It simply can't cure properly which makes the paint "unstable".

So I'm not taking any chances I'm waiting for better weather conditions

John Van Kooten I have actually (just today) decided to buy an airconditioner (large capacity, with dehumidifier) I can no longer accept the fact that weather conditions are preventing me from excercising my hobby LOL!

I have the same problem with the PM It turns out that if we write a very long text, the text is cut off initially (for preview purposes, I guess) and we get to see a "view full post (1303 additional characters)" link. The problem is, that this link is not working... we never get to see the full text. The link just returns us to the same cut-off text.

To temporarily remedy the issue, I have pasted the second part of the PM in a new PM and sent it to you. So you can now read the remainder of my PM

The M26 Pershing, the tank that took out the Panther near the Cologne Cathedral. Legendary battle!

The Panther engaged troops of the US 3rd Armored Division when they were moving towards the Cathedral in Cologne center. The Panther attacked and took out a Sherman of Company 'F', right before it got outflanked by a T26E3 Pershing of Company 'E'. The Pershing surprised the Panther and took it out before it could fire a single round at them!

I will be following this one as wel Great job so far, especially on the casting texture

william wise the footage is pretty awesome not alot of tank on tank footage from WWII the German crew was well versed on their crew evacuation drills they got out pretty quickly considering the stress and confusion and obviously being terrified

John Van Kooten @William: Absolutely! Terrible as it is, it is indeed awesome footage! And yeah, the German crew did get out really fast all things considering! The crew of the Sherman they engaged was far less lucky! Only two survived, out of five, but they were very badly wounded. The surviving crew members were the gunner and the assistant driver.

The Hobby Boss kit is very nice - the details are very sharp and the tracks are excellent snap together workable track links that hold without glue. Regrettably this is the only of their Pershing kits that has them...the vinyl tracks that also come with it are horrible.

The only weak parts are the missing periscopes, which should be fixable with a few spare parts from any modern Sherman kit.

I noticed a few small errors for this particular vehicle that are easy to correct, I wrote a long report about that in the build feature at Model Armour I've linked on the project page (direct link won't work because of random smileys).

The turret armour has a few dimension issues, but it wasn't very difficult to correct them either. I really liked this build!

No it isnt in reference to the Cologne Pershing.Its a unit that was somewhere in April 1945 in germany.I was born in the town named Aachen.The Tanks did their training in this area.
T-34/85 ........ ohhh man,iam still with the Ontos crew(Dio).And i got an eye on the M551 Sheridan for the next Project.Oh......and there is a Ma.k that waits to be build.

Andreas Lundqvist I first primed the tank with a simple sprayprime fore plastics. Then a brushed the tank with Model masters acrylic Olive drab, straight from the bottle.

Gerald Willing Nun, ich habe eine sogenannte Bridgecamera, eine Mischung aus Spiegelreflex- und
Kompaktcamera. Sie hat viele Funktionen, die ich erst selbst noch ausprobieren muss.
Naja, wichtig bei der Modellfotografie ist halt ein großer Blendenwert, damit die Details in der Tiefe auch zu sehen sind. Danach vielleicht noch ein bisschen mit Photoshop oder, so wie hier angewandt mit Corel Photopaint, nachbearbeiten. Mit diesem Programm kann man dann auch prima die Schilder, Wappen und andere Sachen einfügen. Man muss sich aber erst ein wenig mit dem Programm auseinandersetzten. Mit ein wenig Übung bekommt man beachtliche Ergebnisse.

Aghis Barberopoulos Gel type cyanoacrylate glue does wonders. Dries slowly, but for light assembies it has enough grip to hold them in place while you make adjustments.

The stowage on the engine deck is fix.This will be painted with the hull.The camonet too.Other stowage will be painted separately and add after painting the tank.

Dave Flitton My personal experiences with camouflage nests are that they seem to bulk up every time I use them. They fill with branches and leaves and dirt. Of course I had to hide a whole M577, trailer and the tent extension.

Holger Kranich Looks very nice, so far! Had some experiance with Bundeswehr Verbandpäckchen. I used some whiteglue, to hold in position and to sculpture it a bit. But your work is nicely done!!!
