There is also the Blucher kit (05346). I don't know how accurate/inaccurate this other kit is. Probably some issues at the very least I would think. I have the Blücher kit at home if you had any questions about the plastic.

Ah the mighty mighty Prinz! Great model, Steve! Is there a Story behind the lack of the Barrels of turret A? :)
21. July 2016, 13:51
Steve Luckinbill
Holger,
Yes, actually there are quite a few items missing. The 20.3 cm guns from the Aton turret, a few missing AA guns from the bow and Bruno turret and other areas. The Arado and catapult were removed as well as the starboard fore AA tower. All of these were removed at the Philadelphia Naval Yard and sent to Virginia for testing. A SCR-584 radar trailer was lashed to the bridge to test the effect of an atomic blast to the unit.
Here is the website I got most of my information from.

Beautiful work as always Stephen. I'm curious to know is smooth water harder to capture as rough water (i.e less ways to hide little mistakes), because you've nailed it again ?!!?
24. July 2016, 02:28
Christian Bruer
What a great work Steven and a good idea of presentation
You kept a moment in history very well and the Prinz still look elegant and proud although partially disarmed and sitting high in the water.
Interesting to know, the ship survived the Able and Baker Test without any visible structural damage. She was approx. 1.900 yards (1.800 meters) far of the centre of explosion. But she was contaminated by radiation and was moved to Kwajalein Atoll. She start making water through the propeller shaft compression glands and because it wasn't possible to start her pumps she start sinking slowly close to the beach. The wreck is still there:

Thanks guys!
JW, the only real difference between rough and calm water, with the technique I use, is being careful of air bubbles from thr acrylic varnish. The process is identical otherwise.
Christian, thank you for that link. Like all of the subjects I endeavor to build, I do quite a bit of research. I really had know idea what I was in for prior to starting this project. The fact that I completed it in July on the 70th anniversary was purely by coensadance.

But the wethering is waaaay to much.
Even during the last year of war the prince didn´t look this ugly :( as you can see on the pics from Copenhagen... (Timeperiod indicated by the chosen paintsheme)
Sorry to say, but in my opinion this one´s a unrealistic build...

I agree with Mathias that the weathering is overdone in some areas of the hull (as Christian pointed out, one needs to restraint himself). According to my sources, the Eugen hull looked pretty bad only after the ramming of the Leipzig (15/10/1944), after which it entered dry dock for replacement of the bow section. There is a photo right after the refit (early 1945), where the hull looks particularly 'dirty' - I guess that this model was based on this photo.

Anybody got an idea?

scalemates
hey Mathias, it is fixed. The reason for this is because the "Title" on Modelshipgallery is always "M o d e l W a r s h i p s . c o m - G a l l e r y". On Scalemates there I added an autolearning feature. If a title is changed, the next time it will change it automatically. I guess the "Mount Whitney" was the previously corrected one. ... I'll see if I can use something else to get the article name more correctly for this site. :)

Actually, there occured no problems with the Arados.
