I'd love to know how this stacks up against the challengers (ho ho ho) from Trumpeter and Tamiya (yes, I know that the latter's desertised).

Looking at the photos on TMN, the bar armour and the 'bird's nest' antenna look heavy compared to the prototype. Pity RFM didn't consider PE for these parts.

Which begs the question, why couldn't they include it in the kit?

OK! I just bumped into this. This is amazing!!! looking at all the three dimensional parts, knowing that your material is purely two dimensional just gets me flabbergasted how you have to fold and roll your way through this build! :o Great job!

For the tarp that cover up the whole turret i will try to use Parafilm. Should work fine as the real on looks very thin. The camo net patches on the tarp and barrel will be done from the camouflage net from Tetra Model Works or from green stuff.

You should be able to use many of the parts from Eduard 36126. I accidentally bought that version (Enhanced armor) for my KFOR kit.
18. November 2018, 17:49

Eduard 36126 or Voyager Model PE35388 does not matter. Would be nice to get my hands on the Eduard 35733 (KFOR) as this set contains the small stowage boxes that are placed above the side skirts of the KFOR Chally 2.
Unfortunately the set was discontinued by Eduard and almost impossible to get. Guess i have to scratchbuild them.

Should work this way, thanks mate. Maybe i can use thin cooper for the lid. I got an 0,2mm plate somewhere. :)

I don't know what kit these tracks will fit. It certainly looks like these tracks is a bad fit for the Trumpeter Challenger 2 MBT kit (Trumpeter 00345). This is a disappointment and I hope maybe later there is some other kit that I can use with these Bronco tracks.

Thank you! :)

I wish I had seen your message in time. Somehow your message went unnoticed and I went with number 36126, which looks similar. Looking at the PE plates, lots of parts are similar, but lots of part arent' similar.

Btw, this webshop does not seem to use TLS and isn't offering a secure connection. I was unable to place an order due to unknown error.

Bit of a challenge (no pun intended) to build. I built it as per the instructions and the the rear hull ended up being misaligned when I tried to attach the upper hull. I ended up prying out the rear hull, cementing the upper hull in place, and then attaching the rear hull after much time was spent fiddling with it to line them up correctly. Had I not done this, the rear deck would have sat several millimeters too low (as compared to the Tamiya Challenger 2 I had previously completed). The two piece barrel was also a minor issue as it only has one positive connection point when glued together. This led to a slight droop that I had to constantly readjust as the cement set. I added the extra armor on the front hull even though I haven't seen any pictures on the Internet showing this combo with the slat style armor. Since I didn't use the dozer blade, I figured why not? So which Challenger 2 is better - Tamiya or Trumpeter? I just build for myself so I don't get into all the small details others might quibble about. Tamiya's is certainly easier to build but has no anti slip coating. Both build up nicely with small differences between the two. Based solely on ease of construction, however, I'd have to say Tamiya. Having said that, I'd still recommend Trumpeter's version. Just be prepared to put a bit more time into building it.

4. April 2016, 20:07
MUT
Hello. The bucket is mounted in the two tow points/eyes on the front upper-glacis. It is 54 mm wide at that point.
6. April 2016, 14:26
Andy Christiaens
That would mean a perfect fit sir.
Thanks for the response.
6. April 2016, 15:58
MUT
It looks like you are planning on fitting it to an M1 Abrams. The part looks completely identical to the "M1 Dozer Blade - Perfect Scale Modellbau - Nr. 35101 - 1:35". Only exception is the upper part of the mounting, which is unique to the Challenger. It is however a separate part that is added onto the top of the mount. The only thing you will be missing to fit it the the Abrams should be the mounting brackets/eyes.
7. April 2016, 08:33
Andy Christiaens
25 euro for the Perfect Scale Modelbau M1 Dozer blade, or 18 euro for the Challenger 2 from Trumpeter (with a free tank). Easy choice right?
7. April 2016, 17:02
MUT
Yep, I'd have done it that way too. The free tank isn't worth much though. Possibly the worst 1:35 kit I've ever made. That parts don't really fit together very well. It does include a nice bunch of extras though, such as the applique armour on the sides and bow, and the bucket. The extra parts should work well with the Tamiya Challenger 2, or even Challenger 1. In any case, the tank itself will require a fair amount of work to look ok.
8. April 2016, 08:44
Ingo F
Hey Andy, i think i got the Dozer Blade from the Challenger 2 kit in my stash. I have already build the tank but without the dozer (tanks with dozer blades are not my favorites :) ). If you need it, i can search for it and send it to you. Dont need it anyway.

Hi Stefan and others thanks for the kind comments.
Making the rock I used a high density foam from 'Bunnings' (big hardware store in Australia). It cost about $12 (aud) for Knauf Insulation 1200 x 600 x mm XPS Multi-Use Foam Board.
Gluing the foam board together I roughed the surfaces before gluing i also used tooth picks to add strength. Once dry, i cut the board using hobby knife then used real rocks from the garden to make the impressions. The foam board is great to cut and very easy to make impressions with anything you decide to use. o paint the rock I sprayed grey under coat (vallejo) then used four washes dark grey first, black, dark brown finished with light brown.
Dry brushed with a base grey from vallejo. I,ve learned all of this from others a great site is Youtube Video This site goes though a lot of diorama building ideas and techniques. Hope this helps.

Anybody an idea of the green colour? I prefer working with Vallejo but for the moment I have four numbers. Vallejo air 44, Vallejo 886, 987 or 924? Tried the internet but didn't find anything conclusive.
28. November 2015, 20:58
Ingo F
If you search for a good british camo green, you can use Humbrol 86 (light olive).
28. November 2015, 22:43
Francisco Abad
Adding a little controversy I would say Vallejo 897 or 70888 or Tamiya XF-67 with filters. British green is a world.
29. November 2015, 16:38
Ian Barclay
That is thinking out of the box :) . But i've decided to go with a more grayer tone of green. I'm going to use the vallejo air 44 and mix it up with darker and lighter shades.

A pretty little Chally, Murat.
Beautifully aged and dirty, the camouflage stripes I take you from full.
The edge of your base, you should rework again - and the rocks could perhaps tolerate a small Washing.

Thanks guys - appreciate the feedback. It's been rather slow progress and the PE is very extensive and fiddly - fisr exposure to Voyager.
8. May 2013, 15:02
Frank Krause
PEs - extensive and fiddly? As long as you don't have to search them on the floor like I usually do, they shouldn't be a challenge!
Nice project, Ed. I'm in for watching... ;)
8. May 2013, 16:09
Ed Bartz
So the etch mania is complete - it was fiddly but probably worth the effort. Side armour will go on once the lower hull, wheels and tracks are painted up. Needless to say the digital photos threw up a couple of missing items and a stray hole. Will sort out and then start the painting.
1. June 2013, 15:55
Ed Bartz
That's about it - a couple of tiny items to add, but I'm saying he's done. Aerials need to go on and MG mount needs some attention - sealing matt varnish layer to go on.
