8. February 2019, 01:09
Augie Sorry Guys, looks like the re-pop has been cancelled. Have seen lots of people have reported their pre-orders have been cancelled (like mine has)

Been unable to find any office notice from airfix however have marked this one as cancelled. Original issue has been left is so those that think they have this in their stashes, may wish to make the change over.
4. May, 15:57
Nathan Dempsey Let the ebay hunt for the original issue begin...
4. May, 22:45
Clifford Keesler That really stinks. Boo Airfix. Probally because of Covid-19?
5. May, 00:39
David Taylor One thing for sure, prices will go up.
5. May, 14:38
Nathan Dempsey Definitely. When I had looked previously the high end on ebay was $70, now the only one listed is $115 + $21 shipping. I think I'll just wait and watch for now. I have plenty of other kits to build :)

Mike Daniels Come on Airfix. Keep an eye on the competition. And how about a 1:48 Sea Hawk ? Javelin ? TSR2 ?
23. January 2018, 09:36
Augie A re-release of the javelin, tsr2 they did, would be great. not so sure on the seahawk as theres already one :), how about a twin pioneer or argosy instead?
24. January 2018, 00:07
Vasko Zugel Trumpeter and any other brand don't care and have nothing to do with profits of the next brand's kit, in this case Airfix... it's strictly commercial POV and not unusual at all. Latest example is Tamiya Bf109G... Original, it is not, I agree
8. March 2018, 12:53
Soeren . Besides the fact that the Tamiya Bf 109G main group aren't the modellers in Europe.
The main market for this kit is their home market in Japan, because Eduard kits are quite expensive their.
8. March 2018, 13:32
Vasko Zugel Agree. There are many similar instances with same kits regardless ... remember the AMK/Kinetic Kfirs or AMK/ HobbyBoss MiG-31 coming out the same year ... and the KittyHawk/HobbyBoss Su-17
8. March 2018, 16:10
Gluefinger >> The main market for this kit is their home market in Japan
The main market for ANY kit produced the big Japanese kit makers is their home market. Exports for them are a negligible quantity. That's why they do not invest a lot of time and energy in finding local distributors in Europe and end up with a bunch of business partners who aren't really interested in pushing their products, but are happy selling small quantities of overpriced items (Faller, Dickie, ...).
9. March 2018, 06:46
Clifford Keesler I hate that the kits from Japan and China are so expensive here in the U.S. I have yet to see this new Sea Vixen anywhere in the U.S. I think the new Airfix Sea Fury is now available. Not many U.S. kit manafactures anymore. And Revell USA. has discontinued most of their kits.
9. April 2018, 00:21
Glenn . It's the same here in Australia. The kits from china are now more expensive than stuff from japan around $90-$100 Aud for a 1/72 Trumpeter Su-34 thats too much, Even their Su-24's were around $80 each. Lucky i picked up a couple at a swap n sell on the weekend for $40 each! I think it's the local importers charging too much? That's why i try and buy most of my stuff directly from the country it comes from and ship it directly to myself still works out cheaper than the local shops most of the time! I wait a while now for most new releases sometimes even get them on sale! Hell it's not like i haven't got anything to build! :)

4. February 2016, 22:11
John Chapman Hello! Just spotted that you have this listed as a work in progress from 2014. I hope that it all went well? On the back of that I was hoping that I could pick your brains, please? As I have both the parent kit and the Alley Cat conversion I am thinking of making this my next project, but I wonder how easily the conversion comes together and whether there are any serious issues I should be aware of before I start. Thanks!
30. November 2017, 18:14
Crispin Morton John - the short answer is that the conversion set is excellent, assuming you are used to working with resin. Getting the join between nose and wing is the most challenging bit, but with some work and a lot of dry fitting it goes nicely in the end. The booms work really well, provided you follow the instructions to the letter (it can be a bit of an act of faith!)

I did have some issues during the build, but I am 99% certain that they were because of the way I did things rather than the kit or the Alley Cat conversion. Put it this way, I have a second kit and conversion, and one day I plan to do it again - this time as the half-black half-white test aircraft that now sits in the FAA Museum Reserve Collection.

If you want to see the longer answer, you will find the build in all its gory detail here... britmodeller.com/forums/inde..tab=comments#comment-1835447

Have fun!
1. December 2017, 12:54
John Chapman Superb news, and many thanks for the link to your build. I'll have to take some time to comb through that properly. I'm not super experienced with resin on this scale, just a few augmentation parts previously and not wholesale replacement of chunks of a mass market kit. However, nothing ventured nothing gained, and I have a spare kit stashed away in case it all goes fructiform. I originally bought the obs cockpit conversion because I wanted to make the Simon's Sircus option properly (XN650 was never fitted with the frangible observer's canopy, and as it was my uncle's bum that was warming the seat under it at Farnborough in '68 I felt I owed it to him) but in so doing I spotted the full FAW.1 conversion and like you couldn't resist the cleaner early shape. Whether I faff about making that a Fred's Five ship or something from a deployed squadron I will have to decide. Many thanks again.

2. March 2014, 00:42
B Great work Albi!! I know a lot about US Naval aviation, not much British so I must ask why isn't the cockpit centered?
2. March 2014, 01:05
Bill Gilman The pilot is offset to port; the radar operator is offset to starboard. The radar operator doesn't have a big greenhouse over his position; he's in a "coal hole." This limits the amount of light that can interfere with his vision of the radar screen.

Dirk Heyer Hi Bill,
it`s nice to see that you`ve started to build this really outlandish aircraft type. I like it too, as all those ähem... different british aircraft constructions.
Your decal choice is nice and it is my favourite too. As you can see in my stash, I have bought the same decal sheet, but in scale 48.
Sadly Model Alliance with all the amazing decals doesn`t exist not longer!! :/
Wish you good luck and patience with the brand xtrakit, it is not the easy way.
But I`m sure you will solve the problems as usual. Both thumbs up for you!
Greetz
Dirk
9. November 2012, 11:05
Bill Gilman Thanks for the encouragement, mates! I'm expecting this one to be a long journey... :)

Holger, yes indeed a bottle of good old Zap-A-Gap! This is just a trade name for some very thick, gap-filling super glue.

Dirk, I'd love to see you start the 1:48 scale version of the Sea Vixen with these markings. Let's have a race to the finish! :)

Holger Kranich Cool Bill, I would buy it just because of that funny name! Tomorrow I'll see if I can find that stuff in Germany;)!

Now to your Vixen (another funny name in German :)) I hope that your "journey" won't last too long, cuz I'm anxious for some pix of your build!

Cheers, Holly :)

Bernd Korte Ehrlich gesagt keine Ahnung :D Das war ein "prophylaktischer Kauf" - ohne dass ich das Basismodell mein Eigen nennen würde... Klingt komisch, ist es wahrscheinlich auch lol

Bill Gilman Yikes, what a stinky kit. Looks like a lot of work ahead...
28. August 2012, 11:47
Holger Kranich Whats the problem? Lot of flash or uncorrectness?
28. August 2012, 11:51
Bill Gilman Shape and fit. A little flash.
28. August 2012, 12:10
Holger Kranich What a mess...
But you are still willing to build it?
28. August 2012, 12:13

Petri Manninen Excellent kit of a cool looking plane. Bought it a couple of months ago, but haven't dared to start building yet.
13. July 2012, 06:31
Bill Gilman Mr. Airfix needs to scale this one down too. The available options for the one true scale (Cyber Hobby, MPM, Xtrakit, Frog, etc.) all have serious problems.
