Seems like the plus of 26decals is their flexibility (y)

Yes, the quality of the Hobbycraft line was spotty. I've had some REAL dogs, and some brilliant kits. This one, and the DHC-3 Otter were both a pleasure to build. Lots of crisp surface detail, fit was very good, instructions good, and the decal quality excellent.

Ha! 😄 I recently saved a bunch of Maldivian Twin Otter photos from the net (Maldivian Air Taxi & Trans Maldivian Airways) - just because it's one of these things that make us dream... and now I see this project! Will follow for sure...

Yes, those pictures were from our honeymoon in September 2008. We flew in MAQ. I didn't have the heart to tell my wife (not a lover of flying) that the aircraft were probably older than we were….

I know its dumb, but whenever I see a twin engine seaplane, it reminds me of the old American 1970s tv show, "Fantasy Island". There is something very nostalgic about seaplane travel, especially with the PanAm Clippers from the 1930s.

Following. Looking forward to bulding and flying one of these. Currently struggling to finish the Barra one, you can have a look what to expect from that kit 🙂

Very interesting project. Did you use two kits ? And where did you get the propellers and the beautyful livery?
23. April, 13:00
Chris Parsons
Thanks! I did use two kits, I had cut the nose off one kit to use as a mule to make a more accurate shape for a build on floats (seen here) and had put the wrong landing gear on a second kit which left two useless kits. I decided to bash them together (after first drawing up a plan) and came up with this. The props are scratched from .010" sheet plastic and the livery was copied from a picture of a twin otter in Viking colours from the Viking site, drawn on paper, transferred to Frisket film stuck to the model and painted on. The side windows are "Scotch" brand clear tape cut to squares and stuck on.
Great fun!

Looks great Chris! An interesting 'what-if' if De Havillland Canada hadn't develop the Dash 7.
