It is always a challeng, to get red plastic over painted with out bleeding through. I hate it. And I'm always "pissed", when I open a box and it's done in red plastic.

i agree with my brother...if i open the box and a red plastic is used, i sell it and try to get another one in other plastic made. often you can use an other issue from the same kit.
but, the colors are nice.

Christian, Dominik, Thanks for your feedback. I used a good white primer on the red plastic and it still came through. I had a 1:1 eperience on an aftermarket bumper cover on a Toyota Camry. The plasticizer in the recycled plastic reacted to the solvent in the paint. What a mess. I guess this is just another example of how virgin is better. Of all the molded in color models I've seen, the color looks crappy anyway so why not leave the color out? That paint job was my best yer until I put the clear on it.

I had the same issues for a 67 Corvette. Red plastics under a planned silver paint. Base voted with tan filler. Then the silver by revell with my airbrush. After the clear cote (2K) the red came slightly through. It looked a little pinkish.
I took the paint of and started again. The same procedure. A friend of mine gave me the Tipp, to put only really thin layers of clear cote on it. Up to four times. Not that much that you'll get a smooth surface.
I did that. After three "foggy" layers and letting them dry, I put a final layer of clear coat on it. That helped.
I pictured that in my wip: 1967 Corvette Coupe C2 | Project by christian-w (1:25)

Another try could be: base coat in black, than silver over it and after that the color you want. That could help.

The '57 was a donor and a practice car. I painted it black gloss no primer. Then when I decided to build it, I painted white primer over the black then color coat in Testors enamel, thinned 40% with lacquer thinner. I also used the 2K clear coat. I've tried several clears and the all have acetone as main ingredient. I was thinking to put clearcoat on the bare plastic then primer. Hopefully that would seal the plasticizer or coloring pigment. I like the idea of avoiding the color molded plastic. It's just not always possible. I just painted a Shelby Mustang that was molded in green, but my color coat is also green. I've got a Yenko Nova I just painted by it was molded in white. I'm trying MCW primer, color, clear on these two models. I have high expectations on these.

This is unbelievable, that it still bleeds through the paint!
