Moroccan Air Force Coup 1972
Attacking King Hassan II of Morocco's Boeing 727

Hopefully, I'll be completing a damaged, in-flight 727-200 in Royal Moroccan livery (serial CN-CCG) with an F-5A in close attendance (probably 21246 as that is shown as written off during the coup attempt, maybe it was Ouera's?)
A tough challenge as I've not done anything domestic before, nor have I done anything battle damaged, nor worked in 1:144. Let's see how it goes.




On 16 August 1972 F-5A Freedom Fighters of the Moroccan Air Force attacked the King's Boeing 727-200 airliner, returning from France, on its landing approach to Kenitra air base.
Various sources tell of the fiasco that followed as a mix of unarmed and armed aircraft attempted to bring the 727 down. The aircraft may only have been armed with training rounds in their cannons. Despite repeated passes, they managed to disable two engines but could not shoot it down as planned. This resulted in attempts to ram the plane to bring it down, one source suggests a fuel dump onto the plane was attempted in attempt to set it ablaze.
The King's private pilot, a Yugoslavian known as Djordje, and the co-pilot Colonel Kabbaj of the FAR manoeuvred the plane until convincing the attackers the King was dead and successfully landed at Rabat-Sale IAP to see the King evacuated.
One F-5 pilot Maj. Kouera, the flight leader, eventually ran out of fuel and ejected but was inevitably captured on the ground. He was arrested with dozens of other officers and ranks from Kenitra base as forces loyal to the King took control.
The reprisals were savage and widespread. General Oufkir, the Minister for Defence, was summarily executed; many others were sentenced to death or long sentences at the infamous Tazmamart prison. Most of the F5 pilots just 'disappeared'.
