T-34 Airfix - part 2 (adding pigments and track assembly)
Adding dirt....
Mud !
Gently applying it in logical areas...
Subtle on the topsides
Less subtle around the running gear
Next : grime
Same exercise as with the mud...
More grime at the bottom
Next : dust and dirt
Most of it was applied on the undersides
The other side
I was not happy with the gun barrel
Trying to make a replacement from stretched sprue - no luck !
Using rod as a replacement
Sanding it into a slight conical shape
The old and the new..
The rubber tracks had a lot of flash - difficult to remove by knife
I "melted" it down by hoovering the tracks above a flame
Not perfect, but better then with what we started with
Time to add the wheels...
Tada... !
Fixing the tracks
And we have a... hovercraft tank !
Some weight will keep it on the ground...
The tracks will need a lot of weathering to make them look less toylike
White glue covered the track gap
Painting the tracks with a light gun metal mix
Replacing the gun barrel finally
The original irregular gun barrel - with a difficult to remove seam

After having assembled, painted and weathered the kit with oil washes and sponging... it was time for the dirt 🙂 !
