Revell Horten GO-229

My first attempt at 1:72 aircraft modelling. It goes without saying, not everything went according to plan, and the final result shows it. Still, it looks okay to me.

I decided to ignore the cannons, since the working prototypes weren't fitted with them (as far as I know); I simply closed the corresponding holes with putty. As for the color scheme, I went for a simple scheme, RLM75 (Vallejo 71.259) on top, RLM76 (Vallejo 71.257) below (I'm not a big fan of 1946 "What if"-schemes). The shielding behind the jet exhaust, and the intake areas were painted metallic, the overall effect somewhat reminiscent of the Northrop-Grummon replica.

Having not built any kits during the past 30 (?) years my judgment probably isn't worth much, but I got the impression, that this Revell kit just works perfectly in terms of fit and details (for its scale). It's hard to understand, why it was chosen to not close the view into the jet engines from behind (since there would not have been any technical obstacle to doing that - at least none I could see). But truth be told, whatever my Horten leaves to desire is entirely my fault, not Revell's.

I complicated my life by including the Eduard PE set for the cockpit, which went togehter like a charm, but somehow ended up not really fitting the available space. Quite certainly my mistake. I made it fit in the end, but as a result the front part of the canopy got seriously... well, it's there. It's sort of transparent. Let's leave it at that.
