Got hooked as a kid in the 1970s making 1/72 and 1/76 tanks and aircraft from the likes of Matchbox, Airfix, Hasegawa, Fujimi and Esci. Also dabbled in 1/35 soldiers and vehicles (all Tamiya) as a young teenager. However tabletop wargaming (1/72/76 scale WWII, 1/300 WWII and Moderns micro-armour and 15mm ancients, ACW, etc) ended up becoming my main focus in my late teens before giving way to music, beer and girls. Jump forward 20 years and I found myself on secondment to Melbourne for work on a regular basis where I discovered three model shops and a fantastic military/technical bookstore all within walking distance of my hotel. Nostalgia got the better of me so one day after work I checked them out. Came back home that week with a bag full of kits, magazines and aircraft books and a rediscovered passion for plastic modelling.
