Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Mk IXc Weekend Edition as MK832 which was assigned to RCAF 411 Sdn in 126 Wing 2TAF in Europe on June 26, 1944.
Squadron Leader (S/L) Robert Hayward RCAF DSO DFC (then Flight Lt) flew MK832 on Jun 28, 1944 when he shot down two FW190’s, and on July 4, 1944 when he shot down 1 more FW190, damaged an FW190 and an ME109. This brought his total to 5.5 shot down. He had become an Ace and was eventually awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) on Sept 5, 1944.
S/L Robert Hayward DSO DFC was from St. John’s NL, one of only 4 individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador to be awarded the DSO in WWII.
