Attacking the bunker

Album info

Team of German W-SS pioneers check out bunker they assaulted moments before.

Figures are combination of Dragon set and one figure I had left from Academy set. Since they fit together nicely I figured I might as well combine the two. Dragon figures are standard 2000 vintage Dragon. Nice details, some fine moulding lines that can be easily removed with a blade. Also all figures are matched in their poses, alert, but not in action. Dragon often includes odd man out whose pose doesn’t match general setting, luckily this is not the case here. Well, figure with grenade in his hands kind of sticks out, but not too much….. Academy figure is…. not that good. Some details but less than what Dragon’s one have. Still, one can work with it. I wouldn’t recommend buying it but as I’ve said, I had this one lying around and was either include it here or have here lie around some more.

Not all standard equipment is available for all figures, even considering flamethrower operator had less of it. So you have to decide whether you’ll build them the suggested, mismatched, way, not use some or dip into your spares box so all figures are quipped same way. I opted for extra equipment where necessary. Overall nice fits and even where you need to get three point alignment (e.g. figure holding something in both hands) this is achieved without problems, something Dragon often has problems with. I’m a bit rusty when it comes to W-SS camo, but I think it turned well enough.

Bunker is WW2 polish bunker but it looks generic enough so it can easily pass for pretty much anything. It’s simply build, builds nicely, generally fine fits. I tried my hand with pre shading (just bog standard black spray on lower parts). I think I’ve used too much paint later and covered it too much at most parts. Still, it’s visible and it was a lesson for next time.

Ground work is pretty standard and nothing fancy. Some terrain paste, small stones and grass scatter followed by various pigments.

Overall front area is a bit too big so it creates some dead space. But bunker setting doesn’t really allow for much to be used to fill it. Also bunker design has its own requirements so I couldn’t go under certain dimensions. Still, overall quite happy with how it turned out.
