Trumpeter 1/48 U-BOAT 552. Commenced in 2019 and after repeated delays, virtually complete 2024. I have yet to apply rigging. I have made a comment that there is considerable criticism of the TRUMPETER KIT relating to inaccuracies and lack of internal detail. Since I started the project the amount of PE upgrades is equal to the original cost of the kit. Now i find 3D Printed components are available which complete the STARBORD side of the interior as well as upgrading or super detailing parts already in the kit. The situation for me is that it is too late to add most of these upgrades apart from the fact that it is beyond my budget and skill level. The inference from modelling forums that deal exclusively with this kit, is that without these upgrades the MODEL is disappointing. I will let you be the judge.

One issue with the Kit is the number of inaccuracies. . For a kit of this scale, it is somewhat glaring. Since starting on the model four years ago, a staggering number of upgrades in RESIN, PE and 3D accessories has come on to the market. The problem for me is that these cost more than the kit and are often outside my skill level. This boat is a complex and testing build out of the box and by the time you add paints, tools and lighting it is quite costly. The primary concern from UBOAT Modelers is that U-552 is not correctly represented. Some issues are minor, as in rivet counting, some in basic hull appearance and modifications specific to U-552. For me, it suits better if the model is a representation of a typical type VIIc as these boats varied greatly in colour and modifications. Taking that view, i think this kit builds into an impressive representation of this type. For those with the skill and budget, the kit can be turned into a museum piece.
