HAWKER HURRICANE Mk.I

Scale:
1:48
Status:
Completed

It's time to return to aircraft after a few AFV's. Latest AFV project is still a bit unfinished but as it's nearly there and it doesn't keep me fully occupied, Hurricane gets the place in the bench as of now.

I wanted to do a jet plane on this slot but only one available was yet another Trumpeter kit and I rather wanted to try Tamiya (albeit from Italeri moulds) so here we go.

It's going to be a Battle of Britain double build with Eduard Me-109E following after this Hurricane. I haven't yet decided on the camo & decal options but maybe the Polish one intrigues me most. We'll see.

Some delays with this project as I was on hospital for couple of days. Now I've put seat together, painted and weathered it. I have to say it took some pretty serious fiddling to get PE belts to adhere to seat countours in realistic curves.

Nice progress,I believe this is the Italeri kit reboxed by Tamiya ? By the way your cat looks very proud in the picture 🙂

Yes, this indeed is an Italeri kit and sadly, it shows. I don't really understand why top notch company like Tamiya bothers with such substandard kits.

As to cats, don't they all feel superior to us (mere) humans? 😉 Though - on that picture she was napping on the basket when I intruded to get the picture.

Finally this Hurricane reaches completion. Given that this is Tamiya boxing, I had high hopes for the quality but unfortunately, I found out that the plastic sprues are originally Italeri's. And mostly quality is a lot worse than one would expect from Tamiya kit.

Cockpit details are sparse, engine was so bad that one wouldn't dream of making this kit with open cowlings and nose cowling fit was really bad too. You can imagine my disappointment when Airfix released their new 1:48 Hurricane just when I was finishing this kit.

Scratch building includes my first use of EZ Line for radio antenna. Also, I opened the radiator rear ramp and fitted it to take-off position. Additionally, I opened the hand hold hatch on the fuselage to go with the built-in step in lowered position.

Enjoy the pics and you're welcome to comment. Sorry for short description but I gotta hurry to other commitments...
