Paul GreenThe kit says it says "For Motherland Russia" but it actually translates as "Format Russia". The Russian word for "For" is "3a" so straight away you know something is wrong.
When I built KV-2 sources on web said "Mother Russia" was not popular at beginning of war and more likely "For USSR" - "3a CCCP" would have been used or "For Stalin" or "For Lenin". Some sources say nothing was ever added and only a white triangle on turret roof for aerial recognition.

Alan RushThanks Mike. I was just looking at your albums. I especially like the Polish Firefly. That looks fantastic. I tried the silly putty masking for this one as well. However, I was using spray cans and put it on too thick so it formed ridges at the edge of the putty. You can see this a bit in the photos especially on the turret. Need to wet sand more or learn to use a spray brush.

Alan RushThanks Paul for answering Izek's question. I posted on another site and one member from Russia told me the same. I think the kit came with two or three choices and I chose that one because I liked it, only to find out it is wrong. Oh well.

Alan RushHi Peter. The finish looks better in photos since I used spray cans and it came out heavy. I started with medium green spray and used silly putty to mask the pattern and applied earth. I used dot filtering on the armour panels to add variegation. I used a graphite pencil to to show wear on heavily used areas and foot traffic. I used an umber wash and highlighted with sand acryl I believe. I used AK rust on the tracks and rust streaks on the turret and hull. Dark gray for chipping and AK Russian earth mixed with the acrylic gel and plaster powder applied with a brush for mud. One spot I notice now is that I missed putting mud between the inner and outer road wheels so it is still clear green. Can add later I guess.

I've only built one tank and didn't quite get that steel heavy machinery look.
I used pastels for dirt and pencil on edges for metal wear look. Still quite happy with it, but not as good as yours..

This is an inexpensive kit that I picked up to try an early camouflage pattern pattern that I had seen in some sources. I also wanted to try some weathering techniques. It is painted in Model Master spray cans - medium green and earth. I used Model Master Acryl dark gray for chipping with AK Russian earth pigments to make the mud. AK pigments and powdered pastels were used to rust the exhaust and make the exhaust stain on the hull. I made a mess of the camo lines with too heavy a spray.
