Project: VA-76 A-4C Mig shot down
Scratchbuilt
29. September at 12:19:32 Share
JOHN THOMAS Hey guy's More A-4s. VA-76 A-4C. I will be modeling Ted Swartz's A-4C which on May 1, 1967 shot down a Mig 17 with Zuni rockets. Swartz shot down was the only A-4 shot down of a Mig during the whole Vietnam War. I will convert the Airfix A-4B to an A-4C. I will use "Attack Squardon" A-4C conversion detail set which has a new resin nose and some PE. Much of the build will be the same as my other A-4 builds.

Holger Kranich Are you happy with the new nose? Was the difference so obvious? You put a lot of ellbow grease in your build!
1. October at 14:06:46
JOHN THOMAS Holger thanks, Yes the new resin nose went on nice. A little trimming and sanding was needed. Getting it alined and square with the fuselage was the only issue.

JOHN THOMAS Hey all. more A-4's. I have started a new A-4. I will be back dating the Airfix A-4B back to an A-4A. This will required some minor surgery. I will be building this A-4A along with my two A-4B's. Much of the same work I did on the A-4Bs will be done on the A-4A. I will modeling an A-4A from around 1958. Some of the Minor surgery required will be Removing the rudder ribs on the tail and remove the wing vortex generators and remove the refueling probe. The A-4As did not have refueling probe also the early A-4As did not have the red slat wells and red trim on gear doors.

Choppa Nutta they look sweet ! good enough to eat :)
shame about the light trails but a tricky feature to add, my temptation would be to get some clear coloured perspex perhaps even though it aint movie accurate it would look very cool and be very suggestive of a light trail, just a thought :)
19. March 2015 at 14:16:40
JOHN THOMAS Choppa Nutta, thanks. I need to find something better than painted wood or colored paper. I will keep looking for something
19. March 2015 at 19:34:46
Choppa Nutta best of luck ! :) very tricky though to get that glow effect to make it look like a light trail
19. March 2015 at 20:37:03
JOHN THOMAS Thanks Choppa Nutta, that is my problem. I will keep looking. IPMS National Contest is at the end of July, I may try to do something by then.
20. March 2015 at 12:02:26
Bart Goesaert Lovely work.. I'd also think of a thin plexiglass sheet, sanded matte on both sides for better reflection and some yellow and blue LED's underneath...

I ordered via a seller in the States, last year for 50 bucks...now you can buy it for 20 bucks, two bottles...shipped to the Netherlands. Of course not as cheap as you can get it on your bike to the Walmart, but it is fantastic stuff and you really can use it for a very long time!

JOHN THOMAS New photos up today. Decaling now complete. Starting to work on the small bits. The kit Decals worked great even being from 1999. The aircraft has very few markings and fewer Stencils. I used "Micro Set" and "Micro Sol" on the kit decals with no problems.

25. October 2018 at 14:29:53
JOHN THOMAS Greg, It's been some years the last jet I built so It's time. I had the X-23 and the X-22, X-32 and a X-35 on my to do list for many years now, I got them when they first came out back in the mid 1990's so now I am going to build all four. The X-23 is all most done just some detail painting and decals. The X-22 needed a lot of work and is now been prep for painting

JOHN THOMAS Hey Guys, I started a new project today the YF-22 by Italeri in 1/72 scale. I am just getting under way. The kit dates back to 1994. The kit is based on the Prototype Aircraft not the Production Aircraft in service today. I will now be working on both the YF-22 and the YF-23 at the same time. Like the YF-23 project this project well be mostly out of the box with a few added details.
4. October 2018 at 00:18:07
