Another nice looking Spit, Peter! Another kit on my wishlist. How was the kit? What paint did you use for the pink?

Thank you, Gordon! The kit was all-in-all quite good, needs a little work due to fitting issues with the fuselage halves behind the canopy. I'm not very content with my canopy work, but I ruined one of the two vac canopies already, so I left it as it is now. The paint ist PRU Pink by Xtracolor.

The PRX is the last model in my project to build every mark of Spitfire. I have serious doubts about Special Hobby recommending PR Pink for the camo. As far as I am aware pink was reserved for low level 'dicing' PR marks, initially unarmed but later armed because of the very real danger of encountering enemy fighters at low level with nowhere to run. The PRX was a dedicated high altitude variant, hence the intake on the starboard side for the Marshall cabin blower, it was also unarmed. Given this the most likely colour for the PRX when it entered service in 1943/4 was PR Blue. The only photograph I have seen, which is of EN149 fo 541 squadron at RAF Benson, although in black & white, strongly indicates PR Blue, b&w photos of PR spits in pink show up as much lighter in colour. One telling reason for not trusting the information given by Special Hobby is that they state the PRX was developed from the Mk IX whereas it was, in fact, developed from the MkVII, also pressurised for high altitude (Ref. Morgan & Shacklady, p387). I appreciate that this comes after the kit has been completed and I apologise for this but felt the need to put the case as I see it.

Well, as you say, the kit is finished and I neither mind it now nor repaint it. Thx for the information anyway

I understand of course and, having just finished mine in PR blue I'm glad you didn't come up with evidence to the contrary ????
