Space: 1999 is a British science-fiction television series that ran for two seasons and originally aired from 1975 to 1977. In the opening episode, set in the year 1999, nuclear waste stored on the Moon's far side explodes, knocking the Moon out of orbit and sending it, as well as the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha, hurtling uncontrollably into space. The Eagle Transporters serve as the primary spacecraft of Moonbase Alpha, which has a fleet of them, and are often used to explore alien planets, defend Moonbase Alpha from attack, and to transport supplies and other items to and from the Moon. The Eagle was designed by Brian Johnson who had worked with Gerry Anderson on Thunderbirds in the mid-1960s and had produced the spacecraft for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This kits has been released by a number of companies - Airfix, AMT, MPC - and is currently being re-issued by round 2. It's a bit toy like in appearance. The bracing is solid. When I was researching how best to paint them I found a vinyl masking kit online from Aztek Dummy and it worked great. I am not thrilled with my Aztec but it looks ok from a distance. I made some changes to the kit to make it more like the studio model. I added Oleo's to the struts, baffles & plumbing to the engine and modified the side directional jets by hiding the very visible mounting tab. I also drilled out the tiny bells. Parts fit was OK and the decals were terrible. They will silver bad if you are not careful. Good luck if you build one...
