Album info

Finally I had finished the Tamiya deuze and a half CCKW 353 using the following conversion kits:

1. Master Production steel cabin with hatch
2. Master Production banjo axles,
3. U-Models steel cargo bed,
4. Master Production early brush guards and
5. Master Production winch for GMC trucks.

My intention was to build a CCKW 353 with hard cab, banjo axles, steel cargo bed. The early brush guard didn't had the framed "bulge" for the black-out light. That's why the black-out light is situated on top of the frame at the left side and was guarded by an added-on brushguard.

The M32 ring mount was scratch build using evergreen strips and profiles. The M32 ring mount is one of the first one for hard cap CCKW 352 and CCKW 353. I had used the ASUKA M2 HB .50 cal, and ASUKA ammo boxes in transportation frames. This frames I had made of Evergreen T-strips. The

As I wanted to show a topping-off scene, the GMC is loaded with gas cans, most ASUKA ones; a mix of British, US, Italian and German ones. At the bottom of the cargo bed is a small piece of batten. Only the outside rows and the jerry cans, that can be seen, are ASUKA ones.

On top of the gas cans and on the floor of the cargo bed you see one each board with device . These will be on the bottom and the second rows of gas cans to block them. That's how the rows of gas cans will be secured, otherwise the cans would disturbed of the whole cargo bed or would fall from the truck!

The TANK, MEDIUM, GUN, 75MM, M4 is also done. I'll post pictures with the tank on a diorama base the next few days.

I really like the GMC CCKW trucks and I have quiet a few conversion kits. In my stash I have the following conversion kits

Resicast:
1. dump truck with Gar-Wood bed
2. 2 ea steerings for GMC

Master Production:
1. banjo axles,
2. Hard top
3. Hard top with hatch

U Models:
1. 2 ea steel cargo beds
2. T27 rocket launcher for DUKW, LVT, and GMC 352 and 353

It was a joy to build the this kit incl. the conversion kits
This project was my sixth GMC CCKW.

The first one I had build in the 1970-ties was a Italeri GMC 353,
in the early 1980-ties the Heller GMC CCKW 353, I had spend quiet a lot of time to improve the kit, -bolts we missing and other details, but both of these two kits weren't made by today's standards!

As far as I remenber in 1993 Tamiya released their U.S. 2.5 ton, 6X6 Cargo Truck. It's still a nice kit, but missing some detail. This kit was my third one, out of the Box! I had loaded with 75MM and 76MM ammo boxes. The fourth one was a GMC CCKW 352 with hard cab and short steel cargo bed. I married it with the Dragon Howitzer, 105MM, M2A1 on carriage M2A1. Nice kit. For my fifth GMC was build with the Resicast steering and the Resicast Messtruck. And up till now the CCKW 353 gas truck, the subject of my project shown here. One is for sure; - this won't be my last one.
