Box Art

Album image #2
The ship is massive, I am using the box to see how large the water diorama bases is reasonable.

Album image #3
Try placing it with an angle, I prefer the parallel version.

Album image #4
This time, I came up with a new way of making the diorama base. I decided to make a 1.2m X 0.4m one in the end. I will probably throw out my old TV to clear up enough room for this diorama.

I was trying to size the high density plastic foam here

Album image #8
I bought a heating wire this time to cut the foam as using a knife is kind too dangerous for this task.

while waiting for the clay to dry out, I am starting to do some "sparky" works for the wooden base. Here is the photo shows the side of the wooden base where the control switch and USB charging port is installed.

Album image #17
This photo shows the wiring connection in the base. I add a lithium battery and a charing chip for power storage,

My cutting knife is dead during the construction here, thank you for serving me for all these years.

Not too clouded, I think the diorama's size is ok

Album image #25
The side of the hull has some details but they are for 2000+ CV63 not CV64. So most of these details need be removed and remaked.

Album image #26
Adding welding line by carving. The carving tape from DSPIAE is quite useful as it has scales in mm which made locating much easier.

Album image #27
After welding lines are carved which has referenced kitty hawk photos. The next step is adding the hooks around the hull.
I am using 0.2mm coppor wires for illustrating the hooks.

After the hooks are installed, the pipes around the hulls are added. I am using 0.5mm ABS wires for making it.

The right forward platform from the kit is actually not in quite correct sharp for Connie. So I redo the platform extension when referencing Connie's photo

nearly done

Album image #35
I release I made mistake on the shape of the platform and had to reshape it further for correction. Now this should be accurate enough.

The paint job reveals way too many defects, to a piont of unfixable. This fact really demotivate me for this project. Might just leave it on hold for a while to see if I can regain my passion. carrier in 350 scale requires way to much time than a could spare.

Also, I have a question. How did you do that box-shaped preshading on picture 152 and 153? I'd love to do that whenever I get a ship model.

Thanks everyone! The shading is painted with mask tape and a fine airbrush (I am using badger RV1 for this). each line is painted seperatly and paint vertial lines after the horizantal ones are done.Takes a lot of patiance. I learnt this technique from Youtube. I would recommand you to check out a channel called "studio blue ocean" and some of his video demostrated this method (the recent USS Zumwalt video should contain it).
