What a frustrating kit. 90% of this model is beautiful detail that is up there with anything else in 1/72. but the cowling is really quite bad and the boxing I picked up of this had lots of flash on the cowling and many other parts. The way the cowling is molded on the sprue means it can't have good detail, and Revell cram the kit in a box that is a bit too small for it and this damaged it as well....
I've rescued it in my opinion, but if someone is looking to build a good P-47M in 1/72, then I'd recommend stealing the cowling from a Tamiya kit and putting it on this model, the fit has to be about right (it can't be worse than the one included in the kit!). My suggestion would be the Tamiya P-47D Razorback tooling so you could get a resin replacement early cowling to build that donor kit up as an early D or even P-47C.
