Scalemates 5th Generation, UAV, and Stealth Groupbuild 2021

Album image #1
Cockpit done oob and now dry fitting.. The fuselage halves seem to go together pretty well unlike previous reports.

Album image #2
Kit instructions call for Khaki seats with red/brown harnesses but the interior photos I’ve seen show anthracite/black seats and harnesses.
Still some touching up to here and there.

Album image #4
Might add a couple of pilots if they arrive in time and I can do a half decent paint job.

Album image #5
Really like the size and clarity on this canopy after its Future bath. I’ll have to work had not to muck it up, and it’ll be pretty unforgiving if the pilots are poor.

Album image #6
Done some black basing and used light gray and dark green to add tone under what will be US Olive Drab.

Album image #7
Olive drab on. Gun barrels attached.

Album image #8
Stripped the cockpit back out to start again with pilots in place. All the openings are white(surprisingly). Going to dirty up the open exhaust system later on.

Album image #9
Used AK weathering pencils Smoke to dirty up the compartment. Assuming exhaust fumes, even cooled, leave some sort of residue.

Album image #10
Pilot hand painted attempting to get that three colour desert camo uniform. Used blue grey, khaki, dark green. Over sized digital camo to try and get effect in scale.

Album image #11
Changed up for Front Seat. Same colours but used sponge to dab paint. Much more subtle but less effective at this scale.

Album image #12
Album image #13
Redid some cockpit details using AK pencils.

Album image #16
Not too bad for my first crew at 1:72- still learning.

Album image #17
Some progress. Still to add the tail-wheel covers, and nav lights on the doors. Not sure what I’ve done to the canopy but needs a dramatic polish.

Album image #18
Orange optics still to come. I plan on using a aluminium base and layering Tamiya clear orange over.

Album image #19
Mini longbow radar scratched up from a knitting needle cap. Needs a bit of a touch up.

Album image #20
Still second guessing leaving this exhaust open, it’s not entirely accurate in its detail, and not convinced it adds anything. I scratched up the little lift support from a bit of PE.

Album image #21
Decals done and panel washing commences. Canopy really marked up, tried to clean it and it cracked, so hands-off now and another lesson learned.

Album image #22
Panel washes on but still cleaning up

Album image #23
Panel washing not been successful. I seem to be struggling despite good application of gloss acrylic.

Thanks Guy. I'm a bit further on and will get some photos up. Been struggling with the Koolhoven project and now wrestling with some Eduard Resin Hellfires That make the kit ones look like fat cigars.

Lovely build Oliver. I think I stumbled across this doing my research. Like your desert model I'll keep the additional wing-mounts off to add to the 'stealth' aspect. One query please. Did you use the Tamiya main landing gear wheels? Mine look dramatically over-sized and I'm not sure if I like them or not.

Hye Gary , I used everything out of the box , added some scratch and the PJ721130 PJ Production "AH-64 Apache Helikopter-Crew" 😉

Built the Revell version some time ago. Always though Italeri is much better, but it looks the same Matchboxish (Mad Trenchdigger and so forth) 😉
Still, great job on that soapy matter 😄

Hi Lukasz I had a look at your Revell one. Your build is great as usual, but that kit looks like a vague replica of the real thing doesn't it. Mad Trenchdigger? Soapy matter??? Confused, you'll have to educate me.

Indeed the Italeri one looks sharper 👍 And it has more rockets included! (for the external mounts)
The Mad Trenchdigger is the infamous person(-s?), who made the recessed panel lines on almost all the Matchbox kits 😄
And some kits have so blurred details, they seem to be carved in soap not styrene 😉

Thanks. It's important to pick up the jargon 👍 the trench digging here must have been with bucket excavator. 😄

Built one of these a couple years ago, and hated it. My fondness for the old PC games guarantees I'll give it another shot some day, maybe even the 1/48 version if I can find it. Incidentally my impression from the family tree on the kit's page is that all the available 1/72 Comanches are simply reboxings of the same Italeri tooling. Is the kit page inaccurate?

Unless you go for the older Revell version, which is even worse (built it!) 😄

Well done. Congrats!

Oh wow. I didn't realise the older Revell Comanche existed. It's horrifying. 😄

It started off ok but then every time I touched it I marked it or had to redo something. Just retouching the optical sight thing on the nose and then I'm done.
