mottling can be a bit of a pain in the backside.....with tamiya acrylics I could manage, with vallejo air not so much

I tried the "mottling mask" from airwaves, but it didn't work out in the end.
Regarding the paints used, having tried model air for the first time, I really like the smooth texture of the vallejo air range. But for mottling tamiya or gunze is a better option.

Thin your paint well and very low pressure. That is almost mandatory for mottling. And of course patience and, what Wim says, practice runs.

I bought the Vallejo airbrush thinner at Scale Model Challenge last weekend. Too late to use on the mottling, but I can rocommend it very much. It improves Vallejo "sprayability" very much

1st mottling didn't go very well, so it's back in with the RLM76 (Xtracrylics) and RLM81/82 (Vallejo model air)
