Used a hole punch to make a couple round pieces for the knuckle of the hinge, which I then glued together for thickness. This was then attached to the cleaned up angled bits I'd previously removed.
Ian Albinson Suggestions for scratch building the replacement hinges? I have the angled bits I cut from the barrel, but I need to recreate the knuckle.

I like the amount of customization that Joe did is his build (the forks, arms, shoulder, etc.), and have decided to follow his lead.
One thing I noticed in that intro scene with Ripley and the loader is that the cage is hinged open, allowing access to the seat. The kit doesn't offer this, so that was my starting point last night.
