Lucy Belle was renamed after the low-level raids of Jan/Feb 1944 earned the 48th BS time to reorganize for bomb on lead medium altitude attacks. 1Lt Galyean keep Lucy until he put her down on Makin in an emergency landing.
The Block -12 was a Stateside interim configuration conversion ordered along with the D2 Series while the H/J production introduction was being finalized. The waist, tail and package armament are unique to these versions and derivates thereof like the USMC, USSR AND RCAF allocations.
