Hi Daniel! Indeed misleading....
A while ago I was working some albums on my phone and apparently I'm waaaaay too fat fingered to pull that off.
Time for some cleaning up I guess.

Thank you all! Turned out quite well for a quick build.
I liked the kit that much that I already started the same kit in Swiss guise. That one will be very clean and light compared to this one.

Luckily the kit comes with a (technically 3) spinner decal. I wouldn't know how to do it without decals or masks though... Well, in real life those swirls were hand painted and in some pictures the look a bit wonky and haphazard, so why try to be more precise in 1/72 than in 1/1?

When I was a kid, living in China Lake, I remember an F 86 junk yard and wondering how they could just toss history aside like surplus refrigerators. Glad to see one being resurrected.

@Joshua, what do you mean with trouble? Did the decal not fit well or did it not adhere? Or didn't it conform to the details on the airbrakes?
@bossy122, as much as we are enthusiastically about keeping these icons well preserved and as much as we hope 'the professionals' keep aircraft as pristine as we have them in our minds, that sadly isn't the reality and to most operators this is just 'hardware'. I used to work with helicopters and during an exercise I had a person come up to me asking about taking pictures while we were training field landings and operations. I told him to stay outside our perimeter and only take pictures of them being airborne. No persons, hardware or anything else while we were working. That's when/were I noticed my internal modeler couldn't care less about those amazing modeling subjects, I was just concerned about the progress of our training and the safety of everybody involved. Afterwards I thought that before joining, I would be that enthousiast wanting to take those pictures.

@Patrick if I remember correctly their was a fit and conform issues to me apply the decals?!
I have sometimers, i think the air brake was out and i need to cut decal to two different surface or they were on two different levels??
I am sure it was a Sabre and pretty sure it was a hobbyboss kit
Thank you i was not sure the name for that part of the plane however your photo of the real thing give light to my solution...
I was using Micro sol and set but there still was an application issue fit and conformity
Great photo collection!!

Thanks Joshua and Daniel! Daniel, I degraded the Academy P-40E to a training build once I received the Special Hobby one. But to be fair to the Academy one, I should have regarded it with the same respect as I did for that Special Hobby one as it truly is a great kit once you put a little work in it. Fit is awesome, panel lines are sharp and consistent and the overall shape is spot on! The interior is a bit sparse to current standards, but in the end the seat, floor, sides and IP can be painted up nicely. Please do enjoy your P-40 as it is a much overseen gem.

Thank you so much Mark and Łukasz! Being Dutch, orange always tickles my imagination. Although a difficult color to spray, it didn't come out that bad. This was just a practice build for an upcoming Eduard kit. Actually the one where the decals came from. More orange to follow!

You're welcome Alec! The Tamiya lacquer paint range sprays beautiful, it's the bright colors that were acting up, but I guess that's independent of paint manufacturer or type of paint. A modelclub member advised me to spray a yellow or buff base coat before the orange. I'll try that on my next orange project.

Hi Ben! I primed the kit in Mr. Surfacer White, but had to sand out some blemishes and the underlying grey plastic showed through. Idiot me decided to go ahead anyway and those grey patches kept on showing through all the way. Even so, the orange had a very hard time turning orange from the initial orange-pink. Maybe I over thinned the orange. Either way: my learning curved took a steep climb.

Thanks Jos, David and Łukasz! The canopy proved to be 'unmaskable' ... I had a hard time discerning the canopy framing and wasn't able to get the masking tape on right. I tried painting some spare decal film and to apply that in strips, but it didn't work either. Since the cockpit wasn't that detailed to start with, I decided to cover it up with a tarp. In the desert scene it gives an impression of the harsh environment and I could try out putting a tarp over stuff.
Apart from the canopy (and the empty cockpit) I really like this kit! It fits well for an Easy Assembly kit and the panel lines and rivets are correct and very crisp.

Taking a seat. Also, Patrick, I would offer you my view - with a GWH kit which looks like a transformer, I would go for a landing pose to make use of all that variations.
You can do the preflight setup later on an Academy kit, which is also beautiful but without the wing and break variations...

Hi Sergej and Jos! Welcome on board! Sergej, I really appreciate you chipping in! If you look into the original build project, I started off with G.W.H.'s F-14D as the F-14A wasn't out then. Now that I switched to the F-14A for this build, I have an F-14D 'spare'. I was going to build it into a VF-213 during OIF on a cat with everything dangling out preparing for another mission. After seeing your idea, I might actually go for that same bird coming in AFTER the mission with the arrestor hook deployed and the landing gear extended as well. So, thanks for your idea! Even though I will not employ it in this specific build, I'll surely look into it when I start the F-14D.
