Hi guys, thanks for the nice comments.
@Stefan. Hi!!! thanks the cotton bud container idea came from, how can I hold this body upright, with both hands free, so I can place glued parts in position without them falling over or sliding down before glue cures??? and, voila, the solution was there in front of me on my work-desk. If you can, use a new container with only a few buds removed...

Always great to see these MFH kits being build! Will be following you on this one.

Hi Steve
Very great ,Mate.
You re a "sly fox" with the idea to use the cotton bud container!😉
22 February 2013, 08:00
Pascal GARAT
Hi Steve,

Great work!
I will follow your build with interest as I've also started mine.
Your engine is really nice and the injection links add a lot!
The device you call the fire extinguisher is in fact the oil filter and the tubes of the rear part of the chassis were used as engine oil tubes...

Can't wait to see more.

22 February 2013, 08:26
Steve Wilson
Hi Markus, thanks!!!🙂 Sometimes the best tools for doing a task, were designed for doing something completely different and are staring us in right in the face. Just need discovering...
22 February 2013, 08:33
Steve Wilson
Hi Pascal.
I'm honoured you're watching, your input is greatly appreciated in all aspects. You know I wondered about what you're saying about the "Oil Filter"... I thought how can they get to it behind the seat? I decided it must be automatically set off in an accident or engine blow up... Thanks for putting me right in that department, many thanks👍
22 February 2013, 08:43
Pascal GARAT
You're welcome Steve😉
I have some very detailed pics of the 312F1 '67 if needed.
Let me know and I will share them with great pleasure!

I have been making some progress with this build. I'm working on the Chrome frame that surrounds the rear of the transmission, will upload pics later... I am also beginning a diorama, Gilles Villeneuve Tribute. It's the first diorama I've done since, Hmmm!!! a very long time ago😮

Thw wireing on the engine looks beautiful, Steve!
I´m looking forward the next F1 season, it seems that Lotus made a step forward!
6 March 2013, 07:57
Steve Wilson
Thanks Holger, b1%6y fiddly, but worth it...
I am also looking forward to this season, Ferrari look as if they have made a worthy contender, time will tell. It's a shame we're a team and track short though...
6 March 2013, 08:36
Holger Kranich
Yep, you are right, Ferrari´s start in the season looks better than last year!
I´m interested how Hamilton will work with Mercedes. He´s not really a teamplayer, i think!
6 March 2013, 08:38
Pascal GARAT
Glad to have some news about the 312F1 '67!
I love the car and it's two drivers.
Still have mine started but I'm far from the end of the building process compare to yours Steve!... So many rivets...
Chrome parts are nice, but pretty hard to work with...
Your engine is GREAT !!
Hope to see pics soon😉
6 March 2013, 08:54
Steve Wilson
I'm not a Hamilton fan, he behaves like a spoilt brat. Team!!! he is the team isn't he??? But he does add entertainment to the proceedings, his style of driving reminds me of Juan Pablo Montoya. I personally believe he's made a big mistake, Mercedes have a lot of in team issues to sort out before they can contend seriously. Speaking of Lotus as you did above, I'm keeping an eye on that prat Grosjean, specially as he said recently, "My target this season is to have less accidents" if that's target he shouldn't be in F1...
6 March 2013, 08:57
Steve Wilson
Hi Pascal. Thanks for the vote of confidence, much appreciated. I've been having nightmares about rivets😛
6 March 2013, 09:15
Pascal GARAT
... yep, about 700 were used on the 312 body parts!
6 March 2013, 09:18
Alexander Aristides Cronvall
i'm tuned in for the picture updates 🙂 speaking of F1, the only reason that hamilton went over to mercedes was because he wants to play god and take the team to victory. those are his own words. personally my long time love is Lotus, but when they took back mr. first lap nutcase Grosjean i'm not sure anymore. he might be a god driver when the pressure is of and nothing is at stake and a very nice person. but he ain't F1 material if you ask me. but i will give him another chance this year, but if he's planning on using a precision tool as a nascar and block kimi for several laps without reason, i will hold my beloved Lotus responsible for it and get myself a williams flag on the wall insead.

Alexander, you speak right out of my heart!

Oh Steve!
I`m truly jealous!
Such a fine engineered model kit! So many shown technique! That`s tremendous!
Ones I`ll get such a fine kit, like the Matra MS 11 or something else from the early F1 car evolution!
Your results are nice and I`m curious of the next steps.
Keep on, Steve, I like your 312 kit!

Hi Steve, what paint did you use?
I really love that car and really love your build!
I wonder if the bottom was not natural metal as it was on the '68 model...
I have a pic of the 1968 bottom if needed😉
11 November 2013, 20:02
Steve Wilson
@Hunter:
Don't be so down Hunter.
I've learnt so many different building, painting and weathering techniques from you Military guys.
I don't build 'em!!! but I sure do admire and appreciate the work you guys put into the finished item.
11 November 2013, 20:04
Hunter Cummins
Yes and I have learned so much from you car guys😉 and thankyou 🙂 the work is a lot of blood sweat and swearing😉 I admire thework you guys do on the cars and the patience you have to paint allof the little bolds and all that 🙂

Hi Pascal...
Here in England we have a chain of Car maintenance shops called " HALFORDS ".
They sell Car rattle can spray paints matched exactly to makes of car colours.
I purchase for this era's Ferrari F1 cars model kits... Ford Radiant Red'...
I find it the best match.
I decant it and Airbrush it with a light mist, paying particular attention to curves and seams. I leave it to cure for about 10 to 15 minutes.
I then spray a slightly heavier mist, again leaving it cure for 10 to 15 minutes.
I do this 4 or 5 times, building up to a final heavier wet coat...
This method works for me😢
11 November 2013, 20:45
Kars Jans
Pascal Garat: please post the picture for me.
12 November 2013, 06:24

Steve Wilson
Awesome picture PG...
When I first clapped my peepers on it, I thought " Is that a model??? "...
But I realized it's the real thing.
I remember that accident, but I've never seen this Picture:
I also thought it should be painted red.
The MFH instructions also allude to it being Red. I think I'll strip mine...
What do you think Guys???

12 November 2013, 15:57
Pascal GARAT
Strip and light polish for me Steve😉
12 November 2013, 16:06
Steve Wilson
That's one vote for yes...
What do you think Kars???
12 November 2013, 16:10
Steve Wilson
You know!!!
The more I take this picture in😮
The more I realize just how 6l%dy excellent this MFH model is...
12 November 2013, 16:20
Kars Jans
I still have to do mine, so my options are all open. If you are able to correct it, i would do it.
12 November 2013, 17:18
Kars Jans
But keep in mind that this was the 68 model, as Pascal says. Still not certain it's the same on the 67 model. I will have a look in my books.
12 November 2013, 17:20
Pascal GARAT
I think I have some detail pics of the '67 during restauration (restoring ?...) steps.
I will check tonight.
12 November 2013, 17:34
Steve Wilson
Thanks Kars...
I'll wait while you look, I'll have look around too!!!
12 November 2013, 17:34

12 November 2013, 17:42

Hi Kars...
I have found a photo of the underneath of Bandini's car.
Entering the Harbour after clipping the kerb at the '67 Monaco GP.
Although black and white, I can just make out the base being lighter
than the rest of the Bodywork. Check it out:

12 November 2013, 18:38
Steve Wilson
What I mean by...
Entering the Harbour is the Harbour section, not the water...
12 November 2013, 18:41
Alexander Aristides Cronvall
Just make it black and white mates😉

Album info

Having got over the initial NEGLECTED KIT vision I had!!! I realized it was an unfinished MODEL KIT and not an ill-treated cat. I scrabbled about my stash with breathing appratus and full potholing safety equipment, hunting for my elusive " I've started but I haven't finished " model kit section. Finaly after many life threatening hours, I discovered this rarely seen by humans in the real World... Hang on this is beginning to sound like a David Attenborough documentary!!!
Ok!!! The kit I'm going to finish is Tamiya's 1:24 Ferrari FXX, but as Jean Todt's Carbon Fibre Car given/presented to him by Luca Di Montezemolo for services rendered during the Schumacher years. I'm in the process of getting some pictures together, bear with me, be patient they are forthcoming, honest;)
