I started building the Eduard Hellcat. I'm taking it slow with this build. First step was riveting. The kit fits together well, so I decided to do it directly on the plastic. I have saved a few rivet lines until after the fuselage has been glued together.

Nice job ! But I have a question: how do you get along with the scriber from Tamiya? I find hard to work with on round surfaces. It goes quite good on flat ones , but for an aircraft spine for example it's just doesn't work.

Thanks Alex!
I haven't used it all that much yet, mostly on flat surfaces with dymo-tape as a guide. When going around the spine of the fuselage I usually use a razor saw.

Thanks Björn ! As you said on flat surfaces with dymo tape is ok , even though you must hold it on an certain angle otherwise will not work. Thanks for the tip with the razor blade .
Btw your riveter is from RB Productions?
I'll be watching.

Looking good Björn.
Riveting is still a thing, which I should also look into in the near future. 🙂

Thank you Sören!
I only just started doing it myself. This is only the third plane I'm doing it on. It is fun! 😉
The biggest challenge is finding the riveting diagrams for the plane.
David Damek (Plasmo) has a nice video on YouTube covering riveting and scribing.

I got some work in today, and finished the cockpit. I will probably do the engine next..

Hello Björn, what you are doing on extras is just 👍 👍 👍 a tip as a replacement for the Dymoband, it is too stiff and inflexible for me, I take the "Tamiya Curve Tape" hsc-modell.ospan.de/..hp?products_id=31576. for rumpbacks or curves simply awesome to stick 🙂 and sufficiently thick 👍

Thanks Germen and Jens! 🙂
And again, thank you Jens, for the advice. I'm always learning new things here. It's great! 👍

I have finished the engine. I did some small additions using styrene rod and lead wire. The PE wire harness is part of the kit. The engine cowl will hide most of the engine, but it was fun to put a little more work into the engine. 🙂

Thank you Spanjaard and Alex! 🙂 I really appreciate it.
I've painted the propeller and pre-shaded the whole plane. Next is basic camoflage and preparing the nose for the shark mouth.

Everything is painted and the decals are all on, including all the tiny stencils 😛. The gloss coat is on and everything is ready for weathering 🙂.

Everything looks great , but I wonder. Björn, do you have a job , wife and everything?
You have almost finished the model in 2 weeks.😉 🙂

Thank you Sören, Marcel and Alex!
The Hellcat is finished. When I started building this kit I was surprised at how big the Hellcat is, so I added a few comparisions to previous planes that I've built. The comparision to the Zero is especially interesting as the Hellcat was developed to counter the Zero.

You are absolutely correct Bjorn - the size comparison between the Hellcat and Zero is quite stark. At my first, uneducated glance at the your photo, I thought one was 1/48 and the other was 1/72. No wonder the very green, late war Zero pilots felt intimidated by the Hellcat!
That said, your model does a fantastic job in conveying that menace - great job mate.
Cheers to you.

Hello Björn, or good morning to Sweden
the painting of the Hellcat is not an easy task and made by you very convincing 👍, which elicits me on the pictures but a real WOW, the Zero, I do not like them, an aircraft that I had never bought or built, but the Stains are so awesome, you can only write WOW 🙂,
the F6F Hellcat of course deserves the same praise, and since I have already tried 4 of Eduard and 3 of Hasegawa, I know what your work means 👍 👍 👍 👍 absolute respect for the result 👍

Thank you gentlemen for your very nice words! 🙂
@Jens, I only added the Zero as a size comparison. When I painted it I imagined a man with a bucket of paint and a large paintbrush at a jungle base having to do the camouflage painting, so it is brush painted. The hardest thing was not to make it too symmetric. I'm glad you like it! 🙂.

Hello Björn, a small tip for all such Specktarnarn work to avoid the symmetry you should form each stain after a continent or a letter, I prefer letters, and even in such field work as the Zero I use the airbrush
sorry my english 🙁 spots

Another tipp to avoid symmetry is to work in different parts of the plane. Make one stain or sausage or whatever on the nose ,than on tail than on wing and so on. This way you won't have same shape pattern and size.

Both great models. I always thought the WW II fighters were more or less the same size, but the difference here is quite noticeable.

Thanks Alex and Maciej! 🙂
@Alex, that's a good point, not only to look at the symmetry of the stain, but also the pattern. 👍
@Maciej, I was the same. It wasn't until I started building them that I realized how different they are in size. And also how small they are compared to modern fighters. I just bought the Tomcat, also by Grumman, and that is BIG.😉

Yeah, the Tomcat is a big bird, so you can't compare it with a Hellcat or even a Hawker Sea Fury. The later is rather large and compares favorably to an F-16 while it's cowling sits higher than the cockpit of an F-111.
