This decal sheet was purchased in anticipation of the release of Eduard's Royal Class P-51D Dual Combo kit. I saw someone's build over on X of Maj. John B. England's "Missouri Armada." After hearing of his story as a WW2 veteran ace, the highest scoring in all of Missouri & then scoring some hits on a MiG-15 in Korea during one of his mere 6 combat sorties; Well, I thought he was pretty cool. However in learning that he would soon after perish, while avoiding collateral damage to an occupied barracks, in a weather related accident ... It just made up my mind for me; I'd be building the Major's Mustang. (The D-5 variant will be built as Cripes A'Mighty 3rd.)

All of this is assuming, of course, that the decal options for the 1/72 release of this set will have the same marking options as the 1/48 release.

I finally found one of these at a reasonably affordable price on eBay so now I have the last of the odd-ball types of Bf-109s that saw operational service in WW2. I still need an Amodel Bf-109A, an Israeli War of Independence S-199 "Sakin" & an HA-1112 "Buchón" that served over the Spanish Sahara. That's in addition to the upcoming Eduard Gustav Pt. 3, Eduard Gustav Pt. 4 & next year's Eduard Bf-109K.

Although the Messerschmitt 109 is NOT one of my favorite aircraft, by the time I finish building all of those I have & those I intend to acquire over the next year or so, I will have more 109s on my shelf than any other aircraft type. That said I DO see potential for my Spitfire selection to rival it. I absolutely HAVE to master the airbrush next summer so that I can build them en masse. Though I do have some I can build without the airbrush; Incidentally the scheme I plan to use for this one is RLM76 overall with an RLM70 spinner/propeller; If the spinner/prop color is wrong as per the instructions feel free to correct me!
