The witch of Wangerooge Island 1940

Album image #1
Althought these figures from ANDREA are still made of lead they have exquisite quality and stand up well against the most modern released resin figures. They were a joy to paint

Somehow desaster almost struck my build as the previously sprayed alclad enamel color started to crackle at the left wing as I sprayed Mr. Color gloss for preparation of the washes. I have no idea why it cracled but I am glad there are just two spots at the lower side of the plane so later at its dio base nobody will see it 🙂

This is a map of installations stationed at Wangerooge Island. Aside from different, as far as 400 km reaching, radar installations there were a lot light and heavy AA batteries and even medium and heavy coastal gun batteries in 100 bunkers employed. Sometimes there were up to 5000 Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine personell attached to the island. It was declared to a "Fortress" in the last days and pickled with Machine gun trenches, AT-guns, Flamethrowers and others. Shortly after the formal capitulation of the northern Germany the Island commander also capitulated

Album info

I rarely build airplanes and I didn´t somehow finished one model of the famous german Luftwaffe Messerschmidt Bf109. Finally I finished the ride of Kurt Ubben at the strategic important german Island of Wangerooge. This Island is 30 km ahead of the entrance to the important Kriegsmarine harbor of Wilhelmshaven and it is lying strategically for intercepting incoming attackers who tried to bomb german cities and installations. Therefore the Island was strongly fortified and the state of the art radar installations operated. This aircraft, the witch of Wangerooge, was one of the first to fight with british incoming bombers in 1939 and 1940.
