I got this recently and it's signifficantly better than the dissapointing and very expensivr Armory resin kit combined with the ICM URAL 4320.
There are also transparent parts for the windows included.
There are of course some surface texture and small defects since it's a 3D print, but it's not that bad. Some sanding will be necessary, but the end result is still much more detailed nd crisp than anything else on the market.
Recommended.

And yet another completely fictious and ridiculous Syrian painting scheme from the KP company, straight from the fantasy books with elves, dragons and magic. A pilot figure of Gandalf is missing to get you a nice and complete Syrian set.
If you want a Syrian MiG-21F-13, it's either metallic finish with green insignia (pre-1964, although transition not instant), metallic finish with red insignia (1965-1967) or camouflage pattern (sand or orange sand with green patches, underside with admirality blue) and red insignia. There is no such thing as brown. Also, no camouflage with old green insignia.
Timeline completely messed up, KP too lazy to read even basic info from Wikipedia once again, which is very embarassing for the year of 2025 with vast literature, internet and communication.

And to add up, Aztec Models are just as clueless. Can they show one single photograph of any Syrian MiG-21 looking like this? Not to mention that SYAAF MiG-21s never had roundels on the fuselage. They are as well presenting pre-1964 markings for the 1973 era. Let me show how easy it is to get it right (check the "Markings" tab))
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Air_Force
If someone gets upset about my comments, I challenge them to prove me wrong. Until then I will continue to have 0 tolerance for this repeated and year old attitude of "I don't care" from KP and any other company behaving the same. Folks, it's 2025! This sets a very bad example for people that care about technical and historical aspects, especially for newcomers or younger people. How come Eduard does it right in the vast majority of cases (like 99%)? Maybe for them modelling doesn't mean only glueing plastic and sniffing paint.
1 11 May, 10:45

I fully agree. I ment that KP just seem to copy stuff and don't do any original research. It's a shame because there's so many real colour schemes that could be done.
11 May, 21:25

There is not one single photographic evidence that that camouflage scheme of the North Vietnamese #6066 ever existed. There are indeed reports that one machine was delivered directly from a Chinese fighter squadron, therefore already wearing some camouflage. Over the years, I came across at least 4 completely different camouflage schemes found in the literature. The truth is, probably nobody knows anymore how it looked like. Doing this scheme is just guessing. You can just as well make it brown with yellow and lemon-like green.

An yet another wrong marking from KP. Marking #3 represents a Syrian MiG-21 from 1973. While the painting scheme is generally correct, the green insignia had been used only until 1964-1965. In 1973, Syria had the exact same insignia as Egypt (marking #1 for instance). Additionally, Syrian MiG-21s never had any insignia applied on the fuselage.

Thank you Alec! Happy it helped you a bit.
Personally I am a bit unhappy regarding a couple of details I didn't work well enough, but I will be doing a metallic MiG-19PM in some months where hopefully all these lessons learned will be implemented. Maybe I will follow your example with all those deployed aerodynamic brakes. The one beneath the fuselage is particularly badly represented in the kit, so you did a good job at not leaving it that way.

It seems that those guys at finemolds have new-tooled the underneath surface of the wing, with an addtion of the airbrakes.Hope they can move on to the variants such as the Hellenic phantoms as well as the Turkish terminators 2000.Both of thems need some modifications based on the current FM phantoms…

Thanks for the information, I had no idea. Good thing they retooled the underside with the airbrakes. Hopefully they also fixed some of the not so good fit in a few locations.

Beware of the painting guide/subject/marking selection. The number #1 option is incorrect, while the options #3 and #4 are 100% fiction and never existed. To be more precise about each marking option from the instructions:
#1. Egyptian (UARAF) MiG-19s were NOT metallic, but delivered in grey paint ("Russian Air Superiority Grey"). The later ones received from Irak were also grey. The identification stripes were definitely black with no white background.
#2. There are plenty of photographs with the new Shenyangs J-6 painted like this in the 80's, so you can check for yourself.
#3. Egypt/UARAF had no Shenyangs J-6 until the late 70's, so there was none in 1967. Also, there was absolutely no camouflage paint ever applied by Egypt neither on the MiG-19s nor on the Chinese copies other than the already presented marking #2 in the 80's. So the description of the type, year and painting suggestions are all inventions.
#4. Syria never operated the MiG-19, so there never was any MiG-19 with SyAAF markings. Neither during the UARAF period was there any common MiG-19 unit operating from Syria.

Hello Usman,
that is true indeed. The authors of that book are the very well known David Nicolle and Tom Cooper, publishers of very numerous high quality works regarding Arab armed forces. Nevertheless, that very specific book originates in the prehistorics of their research of Arab air forces, when a signifficant amount of today's information and known historical photographs did not come to surface yet. Tom Cooper admits himself that that specific book is just full of mistakes and wrong aircraft color profiles (see for example some fictious Syrian MiG-21s in tri-color camouflage with roundels on fuselage).
Just to wrap it up, there is not one single photographic evidence nor recollections or reports of the era showing or mentioning any UARAF MiG-19 painted differently than in the grey colour mentioned in my original post above, so not even in a natural metal finish. There are a few published photographs of the grey Egyptian MiG-19s from the 1960s in the much newer books "Arab MiGs" (Volumes 2 and 3) and " MiGs in the Middle East" Volume 2 by the same two authors. Since many Egyptian MiG-19 originated from Iraq, there are a few more such pictures with the Iraqi MiG-19s in "Wings of Iraq" Volume 2 (T. Cooper, M. Sipos).
My own interpretation of one such MiG-19 here:
MiG-19S - Egypt - 1967 | Project by Redicus (1:72)
Cheers
Marius
6 August 2024, 05:25

Thanks Marius! I'll check those newer books out. I've occasionally interacted with Cooper on Facebook about this subject, but didn't realise that earlier book was so riddled with mistakes. It is over 20 years old now though I guess, and much more information has come to light since then.
KP perhaps grabbed a copy of the earlier book and maybe assumed it was correct s went ahead with with printing decals based on it...
That's a top quality model you made. Looks awesome.
Take care,
Usman.
