Air intakes need a lot of rework and putty
you have to remove six ejector marks on each piece
took some sparrow missiles from an other kit, cause the original ones were useless
added some styrene - so that there will be no seam at the gun muzzle
added some styrene to the air intake to give it more stability
size of the bird - huge
right half needed some putty
left half also needed some putty
missing anti collision and position lights on the wings
right cockpit side PE Parts
Aft cockpit compartment PE parts
Aft cockpit compartment PE parts
Most of the rear compartment won‘t be visible when the canopy is mounted
added some PE parts to the nozzles
connection between front fuselage and main fuselage is done - needed some putty and sanding
Here you can see the engine cowling fit before (left) and after sanding an rescribing (right)
2 mm gap to fit the tailfins
1 mm connector to put into the 2 mm gap for the tailfin - so you have to put some styrene to it to get a good connection
first layer of primer is on

Thank you Konrad 🙂 hope it will...
indeed a lot of work - I added a small part of styrene were the gun muzzle will be placed, to avoid a tricky seam there when mounting the upper and under half together

Well, it's the only American squadron who was under direct control of the Dutch Airforce, that's why the Wolfhounds(32TFS) squadron badge, just like Dutch squadrons, is adorned with the wreath and crown of the Royal Family. It was the "Queens own" USAFE squadron 🙂

Thank you Erik for bringing some light into that 🙂
In 1959, the 32nd became the only USAF unit
in the world to wear the royal crest of another
country, when the Crown and Wreath of the
Royal House of Orange were added to the
famed Wolfhound design.
This unique honor was granted in recognition
of the unit's contributions to the
defense of The Netherlands and
graphically illustrates the 32nd's close ties
with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Because
of that distinction, as well as the fact that
Camp New Amsterdam is located just a few
miles from the Royal Palace in Soestdijk, the
squadron is referred to as "the Queen's own."
taken from their website...
more information could be found here, quite interesting stuff there

Thanks Stephan. Academy's Eagle is notoriously tricky when it comes to the intakes. I have found somewhere a way to tackle them. I'll post it when I find it. In the meantime I will be studying your approach for whenever I start my own (the -E version)

@ Maciej, yes indeed the intakes are very tricky - I did a lot of dry fitting and sanding to get them into shape.
I will continue with that build Next week after my returne from San Diego - so stay tuned 🙂

Hi mates,
after a break I had some progress with this build. 🙂
I closed the upper and lower main hull of this bird - and yes it needs some putty 🤔
on the wings I missing the spaces for the anti collision and position lights - that will need some little scratch build I think

I did the version pictured on the box cover with the Tamiya kit. I have an Academy sitting in the stash. I also have done the Revell E version. Neither of those were much better with the intakes.
I love yours sir! The PE is looking great!

The next challenge will be the marriage of the main and nose section 🤔
Don't forget about enough weight in the nose - and don't trust the instructions about glueing the nose halfs first and then add the cockpit section - if you do so you will loose all the PE parts on the right cockpit side
So dry fitting is your friend 😉

Her the presume of the necessary sanding and scribing action in the engine cowling area
The exhaust parts are 1.5 mm smaller than the acedemy plastic - therefore I had to sand down this area nearly to zero - the panellines of the upper and lower cowling we're gone - so rescribing this area was necessary - all in all 2 hours of work

May something you have to deal with upfront adding the tailfinns to the main body 😄
the size of the connection pins on the tailfinns are 1 mm the opening in the main hull is 2 mm 🤔
so you have to add some styrene to get a proper connection

What Mr Limmer said 😄 I know it's late for this build but another suggestion for the locating hole could be to fill the fuselage spine it sits in from the inside if it wobbles after adding the scrap card for widening the tab.

Thank you Thomas for your comment about the exhausts 🙂 I like them to
I found that patafix is very flexible also for masking .
I use a wine cork to put pressure on it like on a cake mixture - the result is a very thin film of patafix which is very flexible - the material can be reused for other masking -
the edge of the painted area is more soft as when using tape
next step done 2 color applied - tomorrow demasking

center and wing pylon wash done
next step is to paint and finish the AIM-7 missiles - problem no decals available within the kit - but I think there are some leftover from the F-16 and F-4 build

Your welcome Clifford 🙂
Not that much progress during the weekend 🤔
Finished the AIM-7 Sparrows which I took from my Phantom kit - searched a little bit for fitting decals 😄
Added the antennas on the belly and started the AIM-9 Sidewinders
Next step is to finish the Sidewinders to add the wing pylons finish the belly

Thank you very much Ice 🙂 it's still a lot of work left - at the moment I'm fighting with the Eduard Sidewinders - they have a lot of detail but are also very fragile 🤔

Nice work on the exhausts! And yes, the fins on those winders are thin and break easily. I have glued plenty of them back on.

Thank you Donald and Soheil 🙂
@Donald - this time I put some CA on the fin root before I removed the rest - that avoided the breaking of the finns in 80%.
hope to get them finished tomorrow - they still need some clear coat - decals - clear coat - wash and final coating 😄

Thank you very much Erik, it's better to keep the cap on the seal head till the bird leaves the position 😉
This display will show the bird on it's parking position - when it's finished 😄

Thank you mates for your overwhelming comments 🙂
That makes me really happy.
It´s not a perfect kit, there are some cliffs to overcome, but it will give you a great base of that great plane. Great also means big, so you need some space on the shelf.
There´s a lot of aftermarket detail within this kit, the decals are very thin but workable.
I hope that you liked my building report that I posted here during the last three month.
Over all I had a lot of fun😉 , see this bird grow on my bench during that time.
