A little work on the cockpit and interior today.
RLM66 for the main cockpit and exposed areas, and RLM02 for just about everything else internally. It’s an academic exercise as very little will be seen once closed

Instrument panel- comes with a decal, but it’s pretty useless, so have picked out details and highlighted accordingly. Most won’t be seen once the halves are together
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/4/6/3/1295463-36121-87-720.jpg)
Wireless operator area. Picked out some highlights, Trumpy says RLM02 for the walls on here- not so sure, may have been ‘66. But life is incredibly short, so it will remain as is

One of the alternative uses for Macon Lugny 2020!….seat belts with a bit of Rosie Riveter for the details
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/3/2/1296132-36121-61-720.jpg)
Very happy with the instrument panel and pilot's office. Don't use the decal, it's useless.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/1/3/1/1296131-36121-13-720.jpg)
Here's a few hours on, we're all complete on the interior. Shame only the cockpit will be seen through the transparencies. There's no option to open up the door, (although it could be done with scratch building separately). All pieces went in well. Shame about those little seats in the cabin- woefully under scaled.

Ready for a little oil wash, then close- tomorrow's work.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/2/0/6/1297206-36121-95-720.jpg)
Some oils added around the fuel tanks to bring out depth
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/2/0/7/1297207-36121-99-720.jpg)
All internals now ready, pretty much 100% out the box at this stage
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/2/0/8/1297208-36121-50-720.jpg)
I guess if you opened the door, you’d see more of this. Alas, not on my build, so ‘bye-bye’….
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/2/0/9/1297209-36121-33-720.jpg)
I did decide that the pre-war Condors would have had orange-brown curtains for their passengers and these would be handy for the crew. So a little scratch build….
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/2/1/9/1297219-36121-10-720.jpg)
I knew there were quite a few ejector pin marks, I ground some down and filled some. I think I prefer to grind down and then etch with liquid poly
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/7/8/0/1297780-36121-45-720.jpg)
The two halves came together well. I used a mixture of Rocket Hot and Tamiya thin to align and cure. A little filler was required to smooth out a lip on the underside that was caused by my technique probably. Otherwise the tolerances on this model are up there with the best.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/7/9/0/1297790-36121-22-720.jpg)
Dimensionally similar to the 1/24th Spitfire, and won’t fit in the Detolf cabinet either.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/8/0/7/1299807-36121-76-720.jpg)
Quite a bit done today, all transparencies masked and they fit beautifully into and onto fuselage. Guns inserted into turret/s. Gondola completed. Undercarriage painted and detailed. Finally, all RLM65’d areas….,well RLM65’d!! Waiting on RLM72/73 for maritime uppers, as didn’t want to use 70/71!
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/6/1/4/1301614-36121-58-pristine.jpg)
When you look at the front of this plane, it seems 30 years ahead of its time. Sleek. No wonder they flew one from Berlin to NYC in 25 hours non-stop.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/6/1/5/1301615-36121-52-720.jpg)
The torpedos supplied are fanciful additions. I have repurposed a set of the 500kg bombs supplied and added a set of 250kg bombs to accompany. Not sure if entirely accurate, but better than the torpedos.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/6/1/6/1301616-36121-35-720.jpg)
The undercarriage is nicely detailed, fussy to assemble. I have weathered the fabric covers and dirtied the tyres.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/7/5/1/1301751-36121-52-720.jpg)
From the info-graphic
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/7/5/0/1301750-36121-19-720.jpg)
The kit does not supply the Lofte 7D- or any- bomb sight. So scratch building it is then.
Plus, I added the fuel dump pipe at the rear of the gondola using a metal needle to reduce its chances of breaking off

F8+BB will be the ‘C3 depicted with green spinners
F8+BB will be the ‘C3 depicted with green spinners
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/3/1/3/1304313-36121-81-720.jpg)
The radio aerial would appear to be in a couple of places even within the C3 series. According to Xtradecal this needs relocating forwards from its position. So Milliput out, and a bit of drilling later. Check references, I guess.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/3/1/8/1304318-36121-11-720.jpg)
I didn’t have/or want to buy RLM25. Humbrol’s Middle Green 101 and some drops of white got me near enough to the colour of the “B” on the radio codes, which is replicated on the spinner tips. Others have suggest Deck Green plus white, but to my eyes that is nowhere near the brighter green the decals suggest.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/0/7/5/1307075-36121-39-720.jpg)
Uppers. Glad I did go pure with RLM72/RLM73. Compared to RLM70/RLM71 these greens (grün) do look different, far less contrast than I thought. Naturally there are still some areas to touch up. The wing to fuselage fit is pretty good, just a slight need to get the dihedral right.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/0/7/6/1307076-36121-13-720.jpg)
Unders. Will need to blend wings and fuselage. Not going for a big weathered look, which is harder to do I think.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/0/7/3/1307073-36121-68-720.jpg)
The colour scheme on Xtradecal showed 2 schemes for the same plane depending on whether you look at it from the top or the side. There was no continuity from wings and top to sides. So I have had to interpret as best I could.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/0/7/4/1307074-36121-61-720.jpg)
A little remedial action will be required for the paint that has lifted.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/0/7/7/1307077-36121-30-720.jpg)
Those lines…..modern even for 1930’s technology
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/7/8/0/1308780-36121-49-720.jpg)
Gondola fixed. I sprayed RLM02 inside and on the underside of the fuselage, but left the internal glazed areas as RLM66. Adding a fuel dumping tube and widening slightly the forward MG hole to allow the MG’s material coupling to show. The gondola to transparencies’ fit was a little off, but I’ll live with it.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/0/9/1/1311091-36121-42-720.jpg)
Not too many decals- I don’t know if Luftwaffe machines had many stencils?- glad they didn’t!
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/0/9/2/1311092-36121-17-720.jpg)
Coated with Pledge multi-surface polish prior to decal application.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/0/9/3/1311093-36121-89-720.jpg)
Just going to add some exhaust smokes and a little streaking to this.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/1/5/0/1312150-36121-29-720.jpg)
We’re on short finals into Bordeaux, the masks are off, the transparencies really clear. Just some work around ordinance and the aerial and wire.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/1/5/2/1312152-36121-13-720.jpg)
Keeping the weathering to ‘light’ as I want to portray it as a new arrival!
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/1/5/1/1312151-36121-84-720.jpg)
It’s impressive in its size and has a real grace I didn’t appreciate until I built it
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/1/1/8/1314118-36121-48-720.jpg)
Landed, Merignac 1941.
Overall an easy build, some details are woefully inaccurate, but with a good set of decals and some bombs redundant from the sprues, we can build a 'C3 that would probably have looked like this (before it broke its back on a landing).
Thanks for your likes and comments.

Well Guy, there are undersized seats and oversized MGs (well it looks that way to me!). So far a well fitting kit. Thanks for the visit!

Might be an idea to have a look in your spares box or after market...🙂

Might do for MGs, and will add belts to seats (none provided) but most won't be seen….Law of Diminishing Returns
Plus, the Chinese guy doing the colour call-outs decided to knock off for the day and we don't know the colours for the internal flaps, undercarriage etc. I'll take an educated guess though. Oh, and the markings are for an executive transport- not an Atlantic hunter

Oh...! I always wanted to know if this one is better than Revell's one.
Nice start, Andy! 👍

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Thanks again Robert and Cuajete! You're both regular wingmen on these missions!!….
Cuajete, I'm led to believe the Trumpy is better than Rev, and doesn't Revel cater for the later versions?

![](/profiles/img/78736-860-s.jpg)
Great choice Andy. Like Cuajete, I'll be interested to see how this kit compares to the Revell. I don't possess either , but if I ever consider getting one, your experience will swing it one way or the other!

The old revell did not have any real detail in the internals.Nice Andy. Are you working through your stash.

Thank-you David, pretty big I must admit! So far no
Issues with fit- just those attention to details we modellers crave-Trumpeter up your game!

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Thanks Cuajete, having seen the 48th version of this, I see it is quite the scaled down version, and with no discernible way of peering into the fuselage, it's all for nothing…

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Indeed David, making a dent …
But ordered 3 more into stash last week. Fool!

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Hi Neil. Can't comment on Revell, obviously, but so far the fit and simplicity of build and parts is fabulous. It's just the decals/torpedos/colour call-outs that are not to standard

Awaiting the Xtradecal 72.262 sheet and the Vallejo RLMs for the uppers. Will recommence build early next week….

![](/profiles/img/78736-860-s.jpg)
Looks like you're building fast as ever Andy. Very impressed you have ordered RLM72/73 rather than just use 70/71. Even on my RLM colour charts they are very similar, so it will be interesting to compare them although I suspect it will be difficult to see on a photo. And of course the colour charts never match each other anyway!
10 September 2022, 23:04
![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
@Neil: regarding RLMs, I have the 70/71, but a worm in the brain said to try the correct ones- I bet you're right though, hardly any difference. Trumpeter call outs are 70/71, but many inaccurate colour labelling on this kit. I'm no forensic modeller, honest!, but if I know for certain then I'll correct it or adopt it!

Amazing piece of history, launching beaten-up Hurricanes as single-use defences against the Conder. Allthough not unsuccesfull...
11 September 2022, 16:59
![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
True @Bas, thanks for the note! Looking at the kit, the area around the cockpit and nose seem ahead of their time in terms of 'form', almost modern!

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
For sure Michael-I was aware of the Condorians, but not of their huge efforts of a near-total rebuild without plans. It is a fitting testament to theirs and FW's original designs that it is on display!
13 September 2022, 06:29
![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Thanks Cuajete and Juergen. Thanks for the nudge onwards!!
I hope to commence the upper sides over the weekend - i have also noticed that the aerial will need a small relocation according to the version depicted - further details in the build later…

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
@Neil Patrick: having compared Vallejo's RLM 70/71/72/73 combo's- I am satisfied that there's a difference- the maritime greens are almost indistinguishable- the 70/71 have more contrast. IMHO…

Nice to se the 72/73 on now Andy. I'm sure I cannot see a true representation of the hues here, but what I can see looks very good!
22 September 2022, 11:39
![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Thanks Neil, the hues are subtle and 'drab' (which is what I am sure is intended)….on a separate note: Sir Edward and Lady Helen Nall were impressed with the work of you and Knocker….we're off to the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln to dig out some more research into local crashes…

Nice Condor so far Andy! I am currently reading a book of U-Boat operations and Condor's contribution was huge. Following!
23 September 2022, 21:18
![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Please let me know the outcomeS Micky. I think the Condor was master of all it surveyed for a while until the allies worked out it's nemesis- ship-board Hurricanes and ultimately the Shorts Sunderland- and of course Vichy France capitulated in 1944……

![](/profiles/img/60295-750-s.jpg)
I will Andy, It is a long book( Hitler's U-Boat's War by Clay Blair). I am in the final pages of 1st volume -1939-1942. "The Hunters"

@Micky- persevere with your book, I'm sure it will be interesting. Let me know if you have any intelligence you can share with me for W.Nr.0037? I believe it nay have been damaged on the ground?

@David Taylor: what are 293s? I'm going to use (what looks like to me) 2 x 500kg bombs and may try 2x 250kg ones out of the spares
29 September 2022, 21:17

Ah, that'll not be mine. The torpedos supplied are unlikely on a C3 too.

The grace of this plane is undeniable. One day I will build one. But in its intended role as passenger plane.

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
True Michael, I draw a parallel to the SM-79, lovely in their civilian guise but once the military had designs on them they lost some of their grace.

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Cuajete and Juergen- thanks for your respective comments! I'm nearly done with it. I don't know how Revell's kit goes together, but despite Trumpy's inaccuracies it is a great piece of plastic togetherness!

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
Hi Cuajete!, I can recommend them for any Luftwaffe project. The Condor usually carried 4 of them, the kit provided only 2. These resin ones really show up the plastic ones from the kit - but they're a good addition to have!

Ł: "my 2 methods are stealth, surprise and a fanatical devotion to the genre"….." dammit…I mean my 3 methods…" (with apologies to Monty Python). I guess like some of yours they just get lost under the clutter of other stuff! It's a lovely kit though, just crummy decals and stupid torpedoes. Is pinky still going?
