So, whilst working on the 105 I have also been &*^%ing around with these damned engines. I still dont have the top near the intakes done right, but this where they are now.
Desert Marlin Well, the polycap that is supposed to link/sync the left and right elevators fell out during the process of joining the fuselage halves. So I had to saw out the little housing that was supposed to hold the polycap in place and set it manually. Looks like I have one "unforced error" so far...

Rando That Merlin is looking great. Looks like it came with the kit? Must be a lot easier than old resin, lol
KyMustang Looking good Rando. Were the sprues holding your windscreen attached on the outer surface itself? Mine were, and I'm now in the middle of trying to sand, buff, and polish them out. Very frustrating.

Rando Ugh, YES! I really tried my best but they won't fully go away. Really a deficiency to note for this kit. On one side I kinda buffed too thin, but the sprue mark is mostly gone. I hope they're not total eyesores when it's done.
Marlin I haven't tried transparent scotch tape but that might actually be great, there's a lot of corners and would probably be easier to see through to mark or cut the masks. Thanks as always!
Chris I'm excited to see what they'll look like in the end. Painting before gluing the fuselage-halves together was no option, because there was a need of filling and sanding. I have to admit, the instructions are poor in lot of details, but it can be done. I too have a lot of italian planes waiting and I love them too: Fiat BR20, Cant 1007 Bideriva, Cant 1007 Monoderiva, Cant 501, SM 79, SM 81 and some of the Reggiane and Macchi hunters.
45 years ago the first two kits have been the Caproni 311 and 313 from Italeri. That is the reason to build them at my restart after a long pause. I still have the old models and the cover of the project shows the two old kits.
I am happy to have a lot of people sitting here watching the process! 😄
Donald Dickson II All dirtied up. Exhaust is on and legs going on. And I am having issues with the nose cone of all things. It is NOT the right size and the shape is off a hair. SMH.

Donald Dickson II Well, its done but for the nose cone and canopy decals. I decided I would order the Reskit nose for the Hobby Boss kit and see if I can make it work. The size difference of the kit nose is just stupid. So hopefully later next week I will have pics of the totally complete build.
Markus Helmers For now it's just a placeholder. The whole thing is already getting a bit crowded so not sure how well multiple birds would fit, hence the flamethrower idea. But that would be more difficult to light I guess. Will need to experiment a bit.

Markus Helmers So, as of now I'm leaning more towards the flamethrower solution. The whistling birds only leave a very thin smoke trail with glowing tips. However the wires holding this would also have to be very thin yet be able to hold the fiber optics in place. Thin fibers don't carry a lot of light. This is especially true if you have to roughen the ends to allow for a bit of side glow while being wrapped in cotton. There's practically no light left unless the room is completely dark. Not exactly what I had in mind. Will have to study some YT vids of some of the modeling wizards that do explosions. Any recommendations welcome!

Sy Bar I've always had an idea to document a build as I complete each step in the instructions so I giving it a go with this one as the kit is not to complex. If I still had access to photo shop (I miss the good old days on none cloud programs) I'd over lay the kit on the instructions but when I tried this via an app the results took too long and where not good either so this is a simple photo run through
Tom Gardiner Thanks gents. Yes, the mint green is the plan for the body colour. I am thinking of mixing it with a fine metallic paint to give it a pearl quality. Should look pretty nice with the bronze wheels and the chrome trim!

Lawrence Landis He did computer work for them. On his first assignment, they sent him to Belgium to set up some equipment for them. He had everything ready for the set up and when he landed, he set everything up and had it working within 20 minutes. They took him on a tour of the country for a week.
