This I gotta follow! Sounds like a nice load of BS to me... 😄

I'm in too - cool - another bare metal bird in this groupbuild. Looking forward!

The two piece fuselage seems completely unnecessary, and to do it without tabs or horizontal panel lines on a 2007 tooling is just bizarre.
13 March 2021, 19:54
Martin Oostrom
There is another tail in the box for another version. But some tabs should have been handy
13 March 2021, 20:10
Spanjaard
indeed

Another What if Schwalbe 🙂 Following 👍

Some progress. Added primer and rivets. Two firsts actually, I used mr surfacer thinned with levelling thinner as a primer for the first time

A scale that brings out the best in some scale modellers. !
This is a perfect example of that excellence indeed. 👍
Glad I opened the 'news feed' button, as what I find here is most pleasing to the eye. 👍
Well done Martin. 😉
27 March 2021, 22:26
Martin Oostrom
Your compliment is WAY too generous Kerry. But I'll accept it with a big grin on my face anyway!

More than happy to know your with a smile rather than a frown Martin. 🙂🙂🙂 hehehehehe 😉

Sprayed some Alclad gloss black primer yesterday. Either I have a too heavy hand when airbrushing or the rivets need to be more pronounced. We'll see when the paint has cured.

Chaz Gordon
To be realistic, rivets on aircraft are generally visible in the paint, but smooth to the touch. Screw on panels, the driver indent is recessed, but the heads should be perfectly flush.

Well done so far. Following!

i had to put on my sunshades looking at the pix!😎

It comes in black to 😉

Martin Oostrom
The black had some wavy patterns, not orange peel but something similar? I sanded with micromesh 3600-6000-8000-12000. That took the shine off the black and left me with some marks in the polished aluminium. Anyhow, undeterred I also added some colour on the tail and the engine nacelles noses'

You like?
4 April 2021, 16:26
Juergen Klinglhuber
definitively - like 👍

In The Netherlands we're an economical bunch. So we have a second day for Easter. Used this extra day off productively. Added some duraluminum patches, not too much. Then I sprayed white and black invasion's stripes on the wings and fuselage. It's close to d-day as can be seen by the stripes on the upper side

We have the same here, 4 Day weekend YAY. But it means nothing to me at the moment as I am currently unemployed. (Voluntarily)

It's a strange sight, invasion stripes on a 262, strange but fascinating 🙂

Gary Kitchen
Loving the concept Martin. Are you extending the back history? Squadron, Group and Air Force.
6 April 2021, 18:23
Martin Oostrom
Thank you gentlemen, what a lot of interest in this build 😄

You want to know more background Gary? That's hard man. I know zero about those things. I can tell you from an inside source that the BS262 was flown exclusively by the 9th Air Force, 27th fighter group. Von Trapp's plane belonged to B (Boche) squadron.
Originally Boche squadron was based at Biggin Hill in England. After the invasion, they operated out of the French forward airbase of Rien ne va Plus, near the little Normandy town of Faites-vos-Jeux.

Here's a little:
After being rejected by many US aircraft manufacturers, Bill Schmitt eventually came to the attention of Howard Hughes, who invited Schmitt to Glendale California to present his plans. Desperate to have a wholly Hughes Aircraft Company built aircraft in the USAF Inventory, Howard Hughes decides to take a chance on the outlandish designs and agrees to partner with Schmitt to build two prototypes. The Prototypes are built in the same hangar where a giant all-wooden seaplane is taking shape. The Prototype jets are completed and demonstrated to the USAAF who immediately order the Hughes BS262

😄 loving it guys. Maybe there's a screenplay in there somewhere 👍

😄 😄 thanks Martin for putting a smile on my face 🙂

Did you know that Schmitt also took the plans for the JuMo engines with him? Because he couldn't understand them, he invited two other ex-pats to join forces and build him the engines.
Hub van Doorne, from the famous DAF car plant, and Oliver Bierhoff, a former soccer golden boy, started a company to build the jet engines.
And that's the story on how the BS262 came powered by two DooBie DB-5 engines.

Gentlemen, you could do a group project and bring it alive in a diorama.

Looks great in metal and with stripes 😄

BS262... That's hilarious. The plane looks great so far!

Thank you gentlemen. Today a few steps towards the finish line. Added a wash to the gear doors, joined the wings and the fuselage, glued the engines and glued the undercarriage in place. Waiting for the glue to dry now.

Great fun!

It sure is Jan!
So when she was done, she was still a tailsitter! Luckily I hadn't glued the gun cover, especially for this eventuality. So more lead was added and now she stands tall!
I added some streaks with Ammo Oilbrusher. First time too 😉

And she's done. Thank you all for accompanying me on this story. The pleasure has been all mine!

Did u have the same issue yesterday? All comments were gone? In here I posted a comment that simply disappeared, but when Marrin commented, all seem to go back to normal

Juergen Klinglhuber
@spanjaard: Yes - somethings seems to be wrong. As you know I have 4 Blackhawks at the bench - so 4 albums around. I see all of them in my album folder but 2of them are missing all the comments - and...those two disapeared from the newsfeed & my wall as well. I posted last week but I can't find them any more,......
@Martin: sorry for using you thread for this.

No problem Jürgen, happy to help

Try to post a comment in one of those that seem to have lost them, but make a screenshot before, our webmaster may want to see that
23 September 2023, 22:10

The other two may be disabled somehow, and webmaster maybe able to restore them. Do you still see them in your project list?
23 September 2023, 22:11
Juergen Klinglhuber
Test posted - didn't work - lets switch to a private conversation. I drop you a note.

Album info

In an alternative universe, Willy Messerschmitt on november 10th 1938 decides to defect to the USA. He takes with him the top secret designs for his new plane. Sensitive of his celebrity status, he changes his name to Bill Schmitt. Surprisingly, nobody wants to meet him to talk about his new BS plane. After many, many attempts, his BS262 is awarded a USAF contract. Schmitt's only demand is that all BS262's must be flown by pilots of German heritage.
My plane will depict a BS262 flown during the invasion of Normandy, by lt.col Georg von Trapp, call sign 'BB'. 'BB' is short for Blue Balls, which Von Trapp is called ever since his unfortunate event at flight school...
