Those types of railings (white) seems tricky to scratch build, but I think it can be done. I guess the tricky part woudl be, making the separate pieces become perfectly aligned. Presumably, gluing all the railing parts together could be done, on top of a flat guide with recessed lines to help keep the loose part still for when the glue dries. Such a guide seems not possible for railings that have a bend to them.
Hm, here is an idea. Leave the vertical poles as is, but drill small holes horizontally. Through the horizontal holes, push/pull a small stiff metal wire. Then.. glue on horizontal railings, as two parts, with a hollowed out center (to fit the metal wire).
I wish they made more old civilians boats as kits. 🙂 Lovely to look at.
As a kid I had great fun looking at old photos, and making side view drawing of imaginary steam ships, with the various standard bits: funnel, anchor, bow, bridge, masts, rudder.

Thanks for the comment. It was a fun build because I wasn't worried about how it turned it out. It's the first ship I've built in years and just banged it together.

I think there's an album with a much superior build of this same kit here on Scalemates. That one has some scratch building. Check it out.
